The guy got lucky.
Wait to see if he's legitimately talented beyond what you saw on TV.
#26re: Other broadway roles for Max Crumm
Posted: 3/28/07 at 4:17pmWhy do you say he got lucky? He was clearly one of the most talented guys on the show, and actually had a personality to go along with talent.

Posted: 3/28/07 at 4:35pmI agree that Max was one of the most talented guys on that stage. time will tell if he's able to excel beyond this revival, but he had a lot more talent in his left index finger than a lot of the other guys in that competition.

jsand25 - If there were REAL auditions, not in a million years would he or Laura have been considered. He and Laura truly lucked out.
Yes, he may have been one of the most talented people on the stage, but in the ultra-competitive world of Broadway, where 90% of all actors are unemployed, what can he bring to a part that someone like John Lloyd Young, Patrick Wilson, Hunter Foster, John Tartaglia, etc., can't?
Until he proves himself on the stage of the Atkinson, I believe it's too early to be assigning him potential parts.

I think it's really dumb for people to write him off as a preformer just because or the fact that he was cast through a reality show. Yeah, I'm not a fan of reality shows either, but acting like somebody isn't talented enough just because they were cast through a tv show, is stupid. I'm pretty critical of preformers and I think that he could do more then just Grease. I mean look at how many good preformers have come from American Idol!
I'm sorry, but denying that the guy has talent is really annoying to me.

withoutlovewithoutU - I'm not denying he has talent....he won, didn't he?
Anybody, and I mean anybody, on that stage, could have played Danny successfuly. Anybody on the planet could play Danny successfully. It's a one-note part that requires very little of the actor.
He proved that America thinks he's the best person who auditioned for Danny.
Will he actually be a good Danny?
That remains to be seen.
As far as already casting him in other parts, don't count your chickens.

Let the kid start and finish his first role.
Chill, who knows if he'll be able to pull off 8 shows a week.

The beauty of Max is that he's less like James Dean and more like Jimmy Stewart - that is to say he's more character actor then leading man, yet has too much charisma to just be a character actor.
Mark in Rent
Boq in Wicked
Tony in West Side Story
Turk in Tarzan
Cornie Collins in Hairspray
Adam/Noah in Children of Eden
and while I can hear people saying "WHAT?!" he'd be an interesting choice for Burt in Mary Poppins.

I think it's unfair to judge the odfficulty of a role when you've never acted it or reallyed acted in anything as an adult. Now, I know danny isn't the hardest or most profound role, but no role is easy.
Just saying...
