They're called the "outer critics" because they're on the outside of everything.
Jamie deRoy is a Broadway producer whose credits include The Norman Conquests, Blithe Spirit, Coram Boy, All My Sons, The Seagull, The Country Girl, Chita Rivera: A Dancer's Life, Dividing the Estate ... among others. She is also very active in the cabaret scene. So she does have credentials to vote on the theatre season. I believe Jamie deRoy and Friends is the name of her club act.
Don't know about the others however.

Adam that list legit made me laugh out loud. These nominations are ridiculous! The choreography in Shrek is LAUGHABLE. I wasn't a fan of Guys and Dolls, but it's choreography definitely deserved a nom over Shrek.

Matt Cavenaugh really? Over Creel and Swenson? Really? Really?! So now we're suppose to reward him for his portrayal as Joe Kennedy as Tony? Stupid. Just stupid.
And Tale of Two Cities wasn't that bad. I'm glad Toxic Avenger was nominated!
But really, that kid from 13? Was he the one with the disability? Cause, um, yeah, he wasn't so great.

What a horrible list.
Where is Creel, Swenson, Kusdich, Feldshuh, Billy Boys, Janney, Block, 9 to 5?
But like people said the OCC are never fair predictors.

With Corine as a voter, I'm shocked Avenue Q and Forbidden Broadway didn't get all the nominations.
esparza 333, the Billy boys are being given a special Outer Critics Circle Award. See the bottom of the nominations announcement.

I assume Jamie deRoy will not be allowed to vote on the Outer Critics Circle Awards this season, given the fact that she is a producer of some of the nominated shows.
Is it surprising that WSS did not get a choregraphy nod? I was just wondering.

Was he (McNeeley) eligible? I thought he was just re-creating (to an extent) the original Jerome Robbins choreography.
Yeah James Barbour! He was absloutly AMAZING in this show and the show and he deserve the noms they got! Congradulations, I LOVED this show!
McNeeley was not eligible and will not be for other awards either.
I was glad for the recognition Tale got also

It is amazing some of the people they chose.

why does one musical DESERVE to get a nomination over another?

Because some shows suck. I think Rock of Ages deserves its nomination. It's a pretty enjoyable show. I don't really have a problem with the "best new musical" nominations. I'm just amazed at the "acting" awards.
So the Outer Critics aren't really critics at all?
WannaBe, many producers and other employees of Broadway Shows are TONY voters.

Just noticed that there is no award for Best Book of a Musical? what's up with that? does the bookwriter just get ignored - or is the bookwriter acknowledged as part of the Outstanding Musical category? I figured that would be the producers. Very confused! Anybody know?
PS I am not a voter this year. I vote on the Drama Desk Awards.
I was in the hospital having surgery and did not have a chance to send in my clips.
PS These choices are by the nominators not voters so you can't blame anyone but the nominators.
