Outer Critics Circle Awards?

9 to 5 was eligible because it picked up a Choreography nomination. Slightly amused that G&D didn't pick up a nom in that, since it was probably it's best shot at any nom.
Outstanding Choreographer
Karole Armitage, Hair
Andy Blankenbuehler, 9 to 5
Peter Darling, Billy Elliot the Musical
Josh Prince, Shrek the Musical
Susan Stroman, Happiness
Also a bit surprised in the lack of actor nominations for God of Carnage, thought more than Marcia would have been nominated from the cast.

Posted: 4/20/09 at 11:46amThat's not surprising, only because it was so long ago. But 9 to 5 not getting any design nominations is a joke, as well as no score nomination. Additionally, while Guys and Dolls was not the most popular show, the choreography should have gotten a nomination over Hair or Shrek.

I was about to post that bjh2114. Megan and Kathy managed noms though.
Also have to add, glad to see Becky Shaw pick up some noms.

I know The Seagull had quite a few detractors.
Good on them for the Susan Louise O'Connor nod!

13 and Rock of Ages both had more acting nominations than Hair. I'm just saying...
And they REALLY didn't love 9 to 5.

The fact that the kid from 13 got a nomination over Kudisch is a JOKE! That's comedy. Also, Carole Shelley...really?
If it weren't for Hilty's and Fitzgerald's nominations, I would guess that the nominating committee didn't see 9 to 5 and only nominated Andy because he won the Tony last year.
#36re: Outer Critics Circle Awards?
Posted: 4/20/09 at 11:52amAlso no acting nominations for Joe Turner's Come and Gone. I realize I'm posting as they come in and am thus very reactionary, but these are just kind of embarassing.

Oh, those silly Outer Critics Circle Awards!
Billy Elliot has absolutely ZERO competition in the Best Musical Category.
What a joke this set of awards continues to be.

I hope David Pittu wins Best Actor in a Musical! He was MARVELOUS! Plus, he wrote that show, too. It was fabulous.
And I, too, am glad Susan Louise O'Connor was nominated for BLITHE SPIRIT.

Also, I can't believe they couldn't fit Will Swenson into EITHER of those two male acting categories.
The kid from 13 could have been knocked out of Featured, and Matt Cavenaugh could have been knocked out of Leading.

Posted: 4/20/09 at 12:04pmI was very disappointed in 9 to 5, but it is still a much, much better show than A Tale of Two Cities or Rock of Ages.

At least they didn't nominate Hanoi Jane!
Relly, that list is all over the place.
ATOTC was worse than CRYBABY.

Wait... seriously, no Will Swenson OR Gavin Creel!?! What kind of crap even is that!?
And no 9 to 5??
Ridiculous.
#44re: Outer Critics Circle Awards?
Posted: 4/20/09 at 12:06pmThe more and more I look at these, the more I realize what a joke they are. Many of the finest of this season's performers, designers, and creators were left off the list in place of mediocre work. Hopefully the Drama Desk nominations will make more sense.
#45re: Outer Critics Circle Awards?
Posted: 4/20/09 at 12:19pmLOL this list is SO funny! It's like they put all the possible nominees in a hat and randomly pulled out five for each catagory.

Is the OCC nomination committee really able to nominate 9 to 5 based only on previews? That may have something to do with lack of nominations. It's hard to really judge a show while it's still changing and growing.
And answer me this...is Marvelous Wonderettes ineligible for OCC because it had such a long run in California?

DROWSY CHAPERONE received 11 nominations, the most of any shows, while it was still in previews a few years ago.
THE MARVELOUS WONDERETTES is ineligible because of the removal of the former category, "Jukebox HELL."
