Over The Rainbow BBC TV

I've just seen, for the first time, the BBC TV ad for the series that starts next week.
It stars off very boring and I was thinking 'please don't let it be theses naff guys who get to do the stage production doing lion, tin man and scarecrow!' Dreadful, boring looking performers!
Then it got very funny to see all the other Dorothy's tied up to trees etc with Ms. Norton desperately trying to untie them.
It then ends with The Lord looking more like an ugly Miss World winner than the Wizard who Im sure they want you to think he is being!

I just saw that too and thought the end was funny. I don't however get why add new songs to the show though? Most versions of the show I've seen at the WMC and New Theatre Cardiff haven't had additional songs (except the ones from the film). Also I can't get around to why a Dorothy with an Avril Lavigne like attitude?

I saw it the other day, and i gotta say I loved it, its up there with the ads for How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria. The winner will be a Judy Garland type, they always say they want a modern spin on a role, but always end up with someone close to the movie actress

It may be too early to say as we didn't see too much of the girls, but I was disappointed with the quality of the Dorothys to be honest. I think it was obvious from the very beginning of the other shows who the quality people were (not necessarily the ones who won though!) Time will tell I guess.
Upcoming Shows: 9 to 5 (Birmingham), Priscilla (Wimbledon), Matilda (London), Cats (Manchester) and others TBC.

Quite liked how they incoperated more the "west end" ...

thanks for this thread. i was going to put it up in "off-topic" due to reality show...but glad it is here.

so far this is the best show of this nature i think. i miss john barrowman and zoe though. zoe was missed last time too. liked her much better than denise van o.

anyway, the only girl i wanted in and hope gets through in wild card is Claire H. has it been on yet??

I really liked Claire H too, I hope she gets through though I doubt she will.

Ugh Claire H is not a Dorothy at all. Plus read her bio on the website, she's also appeared in Britain's Next Top Model and Popstars so she's just in it for the fame.

Although with that said none of them really stand out at the moment.

^ well, honestly on all of these shows there has been only a handful or less of standouts as far as their singing voices go, with this one there are many.

as far as being a dorothy...there are a few that would "look" more like one. (one with space in her teeth, the longer haired ones, not blonde perhaps??)

i didn't know Claire's bio. and honestly, you don't think the others are in it for the fame? Jody Prenger was a perfect example of that, but I won't get into that.

out of the wildcards I think Claire has a gorgeous voice, she has looks, she is appealing, that's all. i have just started watching it, so i have not invested a lot in it. just judging on her voice and look. anyone can be made to look or be a character if they have the acting chops. there are many ways to do this. especially at the west end level.

I wasn't impressed overall but this is the first time I've caught one of these shows from the start, so maybe they'll get better (not holding my breath for some!)

Not fussed on the judging panel though-if Charlotte Church says 'like' once more I'm likely to throw something!

They're all blending in to one for me this time.
I'm sure it will be easier to work it out once they go to the live shows.

lmao! how right you are. I really think it is lacking without Zoe and John. Graham Norton tried to justify it, but the judges make the show as far as i am concerned.

Just catching up with this weekend's shows on BBC iPlayer. Two observations:

1) Why so many pop songs when Musical Theatre has an amazingly broad repertoire of styles to suit the finalists and (hopefully) showcase their talents as PERFORMERS?

2) What's with the nationalist nonsense? It was ridiculous enough on X Factor, but I honestly don't give a stuff where an actor hails from as long as they deliver a convincing performance in the role they're cast in... :-?

Just caught up on Sky+, watched the second series when 20 become 10, sat there with my pen and paper and predicted 6 of the final 10. However I thought Dani was very good and Lauren just blew me away.

okay, so Amy Diamond is gone. i totally disagree with Andrew and others saying she would be great for Legally Blonde. she has the voice, she has the beauty and blonde hair perhaps, but Elle Woods has to show innocence and a naive side with humour, i don't think Amy could do that..Bronte could definately. (what is this scathing article that was suppose to come out about her)

- I love Emilie's look but there is a reason she was not kept in the first place. not strong at all.

- there are a handful of possible Dorothy's there, but for me, Danielle ticks the boxes.

- Jenny was awful doing PINK. i do not know why she got such high praise. personality on stage doesn't mean a lick if the vocals are not there.

all i could think of at the end is Andrew sitting with those sweaty shoes. lol

also...he says he needs someone innocent farm girl like for Dorothy and yet their frocks have this push up mesh thing over their breasts.

i like this series though best of all. the mash up was fun.

I don't understand how Emilie has survived... i don't even get how she won the wild card. I'm backing Bronte and the ginger scouser at the moment!

John's judging is horrible. some of the things he says are way off.

I agree. Emilie should go this week.

MamasDoin'Fine:
do you know anything about this article that was supposed to come out about Amy? it was supposed to have some mean truths about her.

anyway, as much as i think Lauren's VT is what hurt her, both she and Bronte should not have been in the bottom

- Bronte will go far though... I see things in her future. I believed what Andrew said about her and his judgement.

Emilie survives- and she had the nerve to think Danielle was going? so did someone else. Danielle has showed the most versatility, so this reasoning Emilie gave is rubbish. and she has an amazing voice. (Steph i think may have the best voice) but Danielle is still my Dorothy. Emilie has an endearing look and looks like she can act. underdog syndrome?

I saw this for the first time this week. I liked John and Sheila's contributions (though I didn't rate him in Drowsy) but wtf is Charlotte Church doing there?

Has she ever done a West End musical?

Can she act?

Of the contestants I thought the two in the sing-off were the best whilst many of the others blurred into a blob of nothingness.

I am glad that the Bronte was eliminated. I do not feel she brought anything to the role and she just did not look the part...More Elle maybe she could replace Sheridan.

Charlotte may be there for vocal opinion only? Sheila concentrates more on acting and John - dancing and all around. and yet...John has been way off on his judging. at least he was the first week. I don't like the change up of judges at all. I like Sheila, even though it seems like they want her to button up faster. I miss Zoe Tyler. I loved her judging the most and think she is one of the most appropriate judges for this type of show.
