Posted: 12/19/08 at 1:55pmI was reading that the Spring Awakening cast will be performing at another holiday show at Joe's Pub on Monday, the 29 at 11:30. They have a show earlier that day, and I believe 9 shows in total that week (not including the Joe's Pub show). That seems crazy to me, especially considering how young the cast is.

Posted: 12/19/08 at 2:27pmwell for West Side Story there is one week during their run in DC where they have 10 shows that week... so I wouldn't complain too much

Posted: 12/19/08 at 2:38pmI wouldn't worry too much about them. If there is one thing that cast knows how to do, it's call out of a show.

Besides...those gigs are NOT required, but totally optional. They are young, they can handle it.
And really: has their attendance record gone down hill????

With the exception of a few, I think the current cast calls out quite a bit less than the OBC did. Emma Hunton hardly ever calls out, whereas Lauren Pritchard called out all the time, playing the same role. Same for Lea Michele vs. Alexandra Socha.
Though to be fair, there were a few in the OBC who almost never ever missed, like Jonathan Groff and John Gallagher Jr.
I'm not trying to call anybody out with this, just stating the facts.

Strange thing: I never saw anyone else play Ilse until Emma started. (But she did call out.)
Yes, both Groff and Gallagher had great track records as did Bashoff. (Which made Gerard Canonico one of the most UNDER used understudies of all time!)
I was curious how bad Tom1071 was implying their attendance had been lately.

I really did not know where to put this, so since the Christmas show was mentioned above...

I really like what they did with the song.

Posted: 12/31/08 at 6:13pmI'm pretty sure I heard that Kim Gringsby did the arrangements for their shows.

Posted: 12/31/08 at 11:40pmI'm pretty sure actors equity has a rule about doing more than 8 shows a week. I'm curious to know what loop hole they are using if they are indeed scheduled for 9 or 10 performances not counting the Joe's Pub gig which would be optional.

Posted: 12/31/08 at 11:48pmBenefit performances. They don't add on another show for the hell of it. It's all written out & I believe sent to Equity for permission.
#11re: Overworking the Spring Awakening cast?
Posted: 12/31/08 at 11:52pmThat makes sense. Didn't realize benefits were exceptions like that. Thanks.

Posted: 1/1/09 at 7:30am2 Sundays ago Emma called out and Eryn was on as Ilse. Other than that I have no clue how much they call out since both times I saw it with full cast but Emma.

Posted: 1/1/09 at 7:40amUsually when a Broadway show has nine performances one week, they'll have had seven show the week before or after, unless they want to spend the money to pay them for an extra performance.

Any gigs that the cast perform have nothing to do with their 8 performance contract...they are optional. If they don't have enough of them agree to do it they don't book it.
As far as the per week....SA isn't the only ones that have 9 a week on occassion...and it's happened before. As long as it averages out it's ok.

I enjoyed Eryn alot more than Emma. To me Emma's look is all wrong. She has a great voice and is a great actress but she doesn't look the part of a homeless girl. Eryn did with her messy hair and ruffled look that she had to her and she also had a great voice and is a great actress.
