Could some one give me a movie-like rating for the following shows? And if you have the time, the content, ie, strong language, sexual situations, nudity, sexual innuendo. TIA
Jersey Boys, Something Rotten, Hamilton, A Gentleman's Guide, Beautiful, Fun Home

Why is Jersey Boys R? Is there a lot of language? It's been years since I've seen it...
Why would you rate Fun Home R?
How many times do they say "F*CK" in Fun Home? Cause that sometimes determines if it's between a PG13 and an R.

Fun Home is not heavy on foul language. I don't remember if they say it once. It's possible.

I think if it's 3+ with the F word gets you an R rating in the movies
Fun Home - R (it would be PG-13 for its themes, but if you're using MPAA's rules, the language would bump it up to an R)
Jersey Boys - R - language - (I seem to remember a large number of F-bombs in JB, but I could be wrong)
Something Rotten - PG (highly suggestive humor, but probably over a kid's head)
Gentleman's Guide - PG (several gruesome deaths, but they are humorous in nature and not graphic)
Hamilton - PG-13 - sexual situations, some language, violence
Beautiful - themes and content are relatively PG, but I don't remember whether it contains language

Bruce drops several F-bombs throughout the show.

JBroadway I'm so immune to "F bombs" I don't even notice, clearly. OK, so it's an R for language.
luvbrdway, are you taking a child to a show or are you a child?

Jersey Boys would technically get an R from the MPAA because it has some uses of the f word but to be honest it is fine for a 12-13 year old. I think the MPAA is an outdated system anyway. In reality, it should be a PG-13. Fun Home would be a mature PG-13 due to sexual content and thematic elements which could be difficult to handle for some younger children. Not sure about the rest but I'm sure most mature kids could handle the titles you mentioned.
Guidelines for the "F" word in movies is you can have one "non-sexual" use of the word f*ck. If it is a sexual use, it gets an "R" rating. And if it's 2 or more "non sexual" uses of the word, the film gets an "R" rating.

Taking 2 13-year-olds - my nieces.
I can handle a few F bombs, but it gets annoying when it's used in every other sentence :/. We are going to Wicked and Mamma Mia. Looking for 2-3 more shows. They have already seen Lion King, Phantom, Matilda. Would like something a little more mature, but not YOWZA mature.
Oh, and we're Mormon, so there's that

Jersey Boys,
Something Rotten PG, but if the audience member doesn't have a decent knowledge of both musical theater and some Shakespeare.
Hamilton = Language, discussion of an affair, PG13
, Gentleman's Guide - PG13....the basic plot is about murder and infidelity. Nothing terribly "bad" but more conservative people might frown on it for younger kids.
Beautiful - PG, but I wouldn't have a kid sit through it, unless they were a Carole King fan
Fun Home PG13. There are very serious themes, including suicide, child abuse (verbal/neglect), spousal abuse (verbal), and same sex kissing.
However, any rating anyone gives you is arbitrary. It depends on each individual kid, and the circumstances of child's upbringing. (I'm assuming, of course, that you asking because of a child.)
I'm pretty liberal, and there have been very few shows I wouldn't allow my kids to see. I'm more concerned that they will like and understand a piece more than worrying about sensitive issues. As an educator, I also have to think about shows I take my students see.
If you give us more details about what concerns you have (a 8 year old? an old fashioned grandma?) we could better address your concerns.
"Taking 2 13-year-olds"
Since they are 13, they'll probably understand a fair amount of the sexual innuendos in Something Rotten (and there are LOTS of them). So that depends on your comfort level.

Yeah I would say Gentleman's Guide and Beautiful are safe bets for you, with Something Rotten being iffy.
Looks like we posted at the same time. With the additional info I would add for 13 year olds, I doubt they'd be too terribly interested in either JB OR Beautiful.
They'd likely have fun at Something Rotten. My 14 year old loved it. (Yes, there aren't any sexual reference any "worse" then Mamma Mia or what's implied in Wicked) What are the families' feeling on homosexuality? If its a big taboo you should skip Fun Home. Gentleman's Guide might be fun for them. (Again, my 14 year old loved it.)

Like I said, the constant use of the F word annoys me. Don't mind a few sex jokes, but don't want to see them doing it, don't want something too serious. These girls are both in musical theater at home. Maybe they would enjoy On The Town? I know I would. Thought it might be a bit old fashioned for them.
I'm also taking them to 39 Steps.
Oh, and thank you all for your suggestions. It is very helpful.
I've crossed Fun Home off the list!

On the Town closes next weekend, so keep that in mind. When will you be in the city? There's some things opening in th fall and winter that might be good for you and your family (Fiddler comes to mind).

On the Town is closing, not sure when you're coming. Jersey Boys seems to have a lot of F bombs, from previous posts. Though not sure if you read the previous posts.

We are coming tomorrow! Have some buddy passes that are expire Aug 31, so figured why not? Husband is trying to pass a kidney stone, so he's not interested.

I'd go for On the Town or Gentleman's Guide then. You should have no issue getting tickets.

Thanks again.
I think we'll do Something Rotten and Gentleman's Guide. I'm okay with a ticket broker - don't get to NYC too often!
