i don't think kristy was bad so much as its clear she has a traditional musical theater voice ( seems to be a rarety these days) and the part is not well suited for one. I also can't tell if the "crack" was in fact a crack or a poorly thought out character choice (perhaps she was trying for something that didn't come across)
On a scale of 1-10 I'd give her about a 7. She certainly wasn't bad, but she wasn't that great either. And she has the wrong costume on for that song.

what does the costume have anything to do about it? good GOD. besides, she didn't choose to wear it.

I'm sure she purposely wore that outfit. I doubt she went "oh no i dont know what outfit to put on" and just put on that one...

i still cant find the clip. can someone help me lol
Relax, people. The costume has absolutely nothing to with it. It was simply an observation. WickedIsLife, I agree that she would in fac know which costume to put on.

Not that it matters...but I talked to Kristy tuesday after her performance (which DID sound much better in person) and #1 she told me she was having trouble with the song because she was under the weather. And #2 She DID not CHOOSE that costume. They chose for her. She said she felt a little uncomfortable wearing it because the "place" Elphaba is when she sings that song is completely different from the "place" she is in when she has that big black dress on. I guess it was hard for her to be young and hopeful seeming with the glamourous outfit on.
Good point, Momo.
Well, she was def. not as bad as y'all say!
She did it too "broadway" for me - if that makes sense...to happy and w/e...Idina, Shoshana, and Eden have a "rougher" voice. I can't really explain it.
Where did she crack?

Thanks! Also, I just wanted to say that I saw Kristy sing with the cast of Wicked at the bar XL. She sang "The man that got away" originated by Judy Garland, and had that place full of gay boys screaming "DIVA! DIVA!". Maybe some of you don't like her take on Elphaba - but you shouldn't be so quick judge her voice or talent by that video. Just my 2 cents.

FYI: Kristy will offer her own solo show on Monday evenings in April at The Duplex Cabaret Theatre.

LOL. I just got a text message from Kristy saying "there is a video of me singing at that thing tuesday. I sound like a dying chicken." Guess she thought it wasn't her best performance ever either!

so.. did you like her or hate her?
Broadway Star Joined: 9/14/03
Me? (well, I shall answer anyway)
I liked her voice..I did not like her as Elphaba...
I really couldn't tell though because I don't think WAI really shows much about Elphaba. I could make a better decision if I saw her Defying Gravity and/or (more importantly) No Good Deed.
I never said I hated her. She has a VERY nice voice, and I liked that her take on the song was different. I think that song left something to be missed, but I'd like to hear more of her on another song. Like bso said, maybe Defying Gravity. But, I still like her voice.,
