POP POLL: Movie Musicals that should NEVER be remade

Hello everyone! My name is GreatBroadwayFan and I run a YouTube channel (of the same name) dedicated to talking about/loving/obsessing over Broadway and musical theatre. I am planning to do a couple of episode regarding MOVIE MUSICALS and I want your opinions!

What movie musical do you think is just done so perfectly that Hollywood should NEVER remake it?

I actually would like a film that is a closer adaptation of the stage show. The film is perfect but isn't at all accurate to the musical (especially in its deletion of most of Schneider and Schultz' material).

Many will disagree with me, but I would say The Last Five Years. Was it a perfect film by objective standards? No. One may even argue that the material can't work well on screen in the first place, but I do think that it was as good of a screen adaptation as we could hope for, for that material. And for my part, I actually really enjoyed it.

I totally agree, the film is perfect, but the Schneider and Schultz plot deserved better. That's one of the best parts of the show!

It would be nice to have a well-filmed capture of the Roundabout production - if Alan Cumming and other members of the revival revival cast were brought in.

I adore Fosse's movie. It's a perfect movie musical. However, the stage musical is indeed different. Capturing a top-notch production of a stage version (I'm aware that the Roundabout version made changes to integrate some movie songs) gives us the best of both worlds.

Similarly, with the Sweeny discussion. Since we have the gold standard (less Len Cariou) captured, I feel less worried when a film adaptation is very idiosyncratic to the director's vision. To some extent this is true with Into the Woods, although I actually enjoyed the Disney movie.
