RAOUL: "Why Have you brought us here"
CHRISTINE: "Well, take me back then" "
Actually, Christine's words in that part are "DON'T take me back there! He'll find me!..."
Spiderdj82, glad to hear such a glowing report. Makes me bummed though... I won't get mine until I go home to the U.S. for Christmas

Man i was having such a crapy day today, but not anymore. One of my favorite things about this recording is Mini Driver! She is the perfect carlotta, pure attitude. Carlotta is my favorite character and so far all the ones i have seen on live on stage haven't captured her essence. My favorite Carlotta's are the original and Mini!
And i love Gerard's manly, scary Phantom. He is more menacing which is wonderful.
I LOVE PATRICK!!!!
Like i said i'm very very happy. This true Phan is happy, and is dying to see the movie.

I decided to ask for my copy for Christmas. Now I'm kind of regretting that...

They are all super--and Patrick, as usual, takes my breath away. His singing and his speaking voice are fabulous.
Can't wait until Dec 22nd!

I LOVE "Learn to Be Lonely" but it sounds nothing like the rest of the score and has nothing to do with anything pertaining to this piece. I would bet that ALW wrote this song for something else, didn't use it, and decided to plug it in here. It is a GREAT song though and Minne's performance is wonderful.
Speaking of songs for other purposes, I still wonder what Aspects of Love would have been like with "The Music of the Night", which for those of you who don't know, was originally intended for Aspects, but Webber (who was working on both at the same time), pulled it and put it in Phantom.

Now, I must confess. This is the first time EVER that I've listened to Phantom (save for the title song, Music of the Night and All I Ask of You). I've never gotten the OLCR. So, basically, I have no idea what is going on lol. However, I'm liking it this way, as the movie will still be somewhat of a surprise to me, and I can focus on the performances. I haven't heard a bad performance yet, and I've listened to most of disk 1.
I'm very glad I ventured to Circuit City when I did, as I got the LAST copy of the Special Edition (and for $16, you can't go wrong!).

Hey all -
I was the first in line to get the CD this morning at Virgin, Boston. These are my thoughts on the soundtrack:
-I think Emmy Rossum sounds adorable, so does Patrick Wilson. None of the leads really have strong operatic voices but I think for a film version this works perfectly...a movie has a totally different feel to everything than i stage show. If you had Julie Hanson or Sandra Joseph on there belting their notes I truly do not think it would be effective at all. Small sounds and voices work best in film.
I adore the accents in the show...especially of Madame Giry's thick French accent and Carlotta's very thick Italian accent. Very well done. Meg sounds like meg and sings very beautifuly.
-Gerard Butler unfortunatly the worst sounding in my opionion. It is one thing to use your acting voice to scream and yell certain notes but Gerard simply sounds like a sick cow. The original novel by Gaston Leroux had Erik as one of the most beautiful singers..so much so that Christine would be mesmorized and relaxed. I would have thought ALW would want the same thing to come accross when releasing such lines as "..but his voice filled my spirit with a strange sweet sound.." Now I have not seen the film so I won't go on tearing poor Gerard apart but personally I would have picked an unknown broadway star rather than an unknown, poor singing film star to perform the role on film. But, let us wait until the release of the movie itself before making too much noise..Gerard may brilliantly act the role.
I enjoyed all of the transitions of songs..even the new material fits wonderfuly! I also think the choice of switching the chandelier crash from Act I to Act II works fine. I am very happy that I lot of the dialogue and all of the songs are available on this double disk cd. Prologue and all....very nice!
Ciao

Yays: Orchestrations are GORGEOUS! NEVER has this score sounded so great. Never has ANY ALW score sounded so great.
Most of the cast sound terrific (managers can't sing, but they act it which will work better on screen)
There is more acting in the singing now which gives it more feeling and for the first time I had shivers after I listened to it. Some of the lyric changes and speaking lines are done well. It sounds a tad corny though when it is a lot of rhyming words, but they act it perfectly.
Nays:
If you buy the Speical Edition, about 90% of the sound effects and dialogue is on the cd. Which is great but a lot of it is something you need to see on film in order to understand (what was Carlotta shouting about in "Think of Me" about the dancers?) Sometimes I felt like some things were too short, I reall did like the verse in the title song "In all you fantasies" Those few chords right before it always make me jump. But, cuts had to be made to make it shorter and they did it just fine.
In all: an ABSOLUTE BUY! Emmy Rossum is MY GOD! Gerard Butler is "practically perfect" (wrong show, but needed to be said). His voice is the kind where it takes some getting used to but by the end you end up loving him.

LOVE IT...Masquerade is blasting right now.
lulugee, I agree about Gerard being the weakest in the group.

Can't wait to see the movie, I am going to seeing it right after a Millie tour matinee. To much musical in one day? I think not.
Added: Does it bother anyone else that on "Think of Me" you can hear like little squeaks at the end when she reaches those high notes. I know not to expect perfection, but still.
