"Granted I still wish Hugh Panaro was The Phantom on the soundtrack" ... I totally agree with you about that! LOL!
GB's voice is still growing on me, but he definitely has his moments. I'm sure he'll shine on the big screen.

Honestly if I ever meet Patrick, I gonna ask "Do you know this Beacon1 gal? Yes? I thought so. Oh your getting married? OVER MY DEAD BODY!"

ET...
I think if you mentioned "that Beacon girl" you'd see Patrick go very pale, he'd begin to shake, his lower lip trembling and those fabulous blue eyes would start darting all over the crowd while he sobs out "why? is she here? is she here? Guards! Guards!"
At least...that's what usually happens...LOL!

Oh, that picture will certainly never get old.. *stares*
Interesting... hadn't seen that photo before. Where did you find it?
Counting down the days till I see this film... 16 days and counting...
I just got the CD. I love it. I really like all three of the leads' voices, except that when GB sings, I tense up because I'm never sure he'll hit the next note haha.

I got it from the PhantomFans.Net site. It's the Phans who love Patrick Wilson thread...one of the more recent pages, I think. In fact there are some rather..."interesting" links to some *cough* more revealing pics of Patrick from The Full Monty and
Angels in America.

I just can't get past how weak Ammy and Gerard's voices are. Seriously, is that the BEST they could do out of all the talent in the world? He's supposed to be Christine's voice coach? It's no wonder the opera doesn't want to use her. It's not because the Phantom is dangerous, it's because he's coached Christine to sound like him, which is not that good. Maybe it works better on screen, but I don't know if I will be listening to the soundtrack again.
Emmy's voice is sooo unstable and I can listen to it, but I find it hard to think that there isn't another pretty 17-year old that can sing better.
And honestly, Gerard sounds very good for the movie, very in character, but it doesn't work for the soundtrack...Sorry if that doesn't make sense, I don't know how to say it.
I agree, and I think once reviews hit the papers, Ammy & Gerard are really going to do severe damage to the film's box office numbers. Let's look facts in the face, the Phantom is the role everyone goes to see, and Butler doesn't cut it. I am putting my money on him receiving VERY unfavorable reviews. Of course, I'll see it, but when it comes to films, ALW does not know how to cast.

LOL...here's an interesting bit from Emmy Rossum's appearance on a British TV show today to promote POTO. (The world premiere is in London on 12/6).
EXCERPT from PFN Messageboard: "Also they showed her Screentest from when she first auditioned for the role...then there was chatting about teh film and the fact that she had to kiss Patrick wilson so many times in one day that her lips froze up and got bigger..."
Oh....you all knew I'd comment on this one, didn't ya.
Fer cryin' outload. If her lips are so sensitive why oh why didn't they call me for stunt double work?
It must be during the dancing/whirling in AIAOY. They had to come together pretty firmly to stay locked together as they spun around. But, again, I was available for stunt work and my phone never rang...

i think Lord Webber wanted his movie Phantom to be more darker, less polished and more edgy...i guess that's why he went for gerard. although i don't know how that would explain how the phantom can train christine to be such an amazing singer sounding the way he does. . .go figure.

Sometimes the best teacher isn't always the best singer.
I was about to say, I have heard some voice teachers that were borderline awful, but their teaching techniques were superb. And it is not really the "voice" that makes Christine go to him. It is the illusion that he has placed over her to make her believe that he is the angel that her father sent her after his death. I think Christine misses her dad so much, pretty much anyone could have said "I am the angel of music your father promised to send you" and she would have believed him. I really like his voice. It is gritty and raw. And in the book Christine dissapoints a few times. She performs infront of people and is horrible and people wonder if it is even the same person that was on the stage before. Also, people think that others will notice that his voice isn't up to par with other Phantoms, but you have to think that a lot of the people that will see this movie, have never seen the musical and will have no prior knowledge of past Phantoms to compare Gerard and Emmy too. I think we are so used to what is on the stage and other singers that have portrayed these characters, that we refuse to accept people who would not work on the stage. Does that make sense?
All I know is that the end of "All I ask of you" reprise is frickin amazing. Overall GB's voice is decent, but many parts just make me say Wow.

Those are my favorite ones! too bad we can't post em here...
I agree with you about the "reprise." Also "Point of No Return" and "Down Once More" is the best I have ever heard. Bravo!
i LOVE the rperise... i think thats my favorite part on the recording!
that's true kec, sometimes the best teacher isn't always the best singer.
keeping that in mind the darker sounding Phantom makes more sense with the tone. he's a tortured soul, who's gone through much pain in his life.
a new approach was needed, it's been nearly twenty years since the show was originally produced. change is good sometimes. that said, i can't wait to see this on the big screen.
aw marquise.. looks like you're really hooked now
ME NEITHER!!!!!!! Marquise, do you want to join me, Zepka, and Bwayguy2 at the theatre to see it and sing through it and annoy people?
i would love to! i'm gonna be singing my ass off to "Masqueraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaade!!!!!"
WOOHOO!!!
so now all 4 of us are gonna be sitting there, crying like babies, singing along... oh its gonna be so great !!!
yes zepka - - -
i havent listened to POTO in years, i own the original london recording. this is like revisiting an old friend in new clothes!
