Okay. Story time - etheb and I are joining forces to bring you an account of tonight choc-full of details. Here goes...
So. We left after my class that was *supposed* to end at 3:30, but of course it ended late, and then getting to Bloomie's we hit a ton of traffic because of construction and stuff. We actually missed a good portion of the actual festivities, but we did get to see the big picture of the mask come down, and we heard the orchestra play some of the score. In the past ten years, I've really forgotten how gorgeous that music is live. The windows are beautiful, as well - anyone who is able to should definitely swing by and check them out.
We weren't all that close, but we could see the actors, and we got a decent shot of the stage. Unfortunately (sorry zepka, we tried!) Emmy - who is stunning, by the way - was too short to appear in this photo, but if you look mighty closely, you can see TSMrW's fabulous forehead.
So... the shindig ended, and we happened to be right up near the barricades leading to the entrance that the actors all used to get inside the store - we were like three feet from Minnie Driver, who stopped to talk to some people....
Then came Gerard... he saw that people were trying to take pictures, and stopped because, well, he knows how to work the cameras. Get a look at this face!
I think he has pretty eyes, but not as pretty as Patrick's.
Unfortunately, TSMrW seemed a little bit freaked out by all of the media hubub, and he walked through the crowds kind of quickly, smiley, but still kind of hastily. He seemed like it was a bit much for him. We did, however, manage to get this glamorous shot of the back of his adorable head...
So, Patrick and the rest of the cast go inside, leaving a very forlorn Emcee. See, it hit me right at that moment, putting a lot of things into perspective. Two years ago, I could have a conversation with Patrick. Now you couldn't even get near him - my sadness over his becoming a "big, bad movie star" combined with the fear I've been expressing about the RENT movie, and made for one VERY damaged fangirl. It made me think nothing other than that this was the way it was going to be, and that even though I'm happy for him, it makes me a little bit sad that now he seemed so untouchable. I thought of Adam, and became even more of a damaged fangirl - having what happened with Patrick happen with him might actually kill me.
Anyway, enough sadness - we decided to go inside the store and take a gander, see if anyone was inside. The orchestra was disassembling, and we decided to go up to where they were going, thinking maybe the cast was up there. We ran into some big Phantom fans who were trying to get Gerard's autograph, and waited around by the elevators for a bit, hoping for some luck to pull me out of my sadness.
After a lot of waiting, we decided to take a break and go check out the windows. They're pretty; look!
