-- the new Craig Lucas piece playing PH's Mainstage next month thru December. Anyone know about it? Today, I received two emails (via my two accounts) and 'paper mail' about it. I was intrigued by the cast and the brief synopsis. Anyone know what to expect from this one?

It looks good to me! I assumed it'd be a sell-out, but maybe not? It works better for me if it's not! I'm excited to see what it's all about. I tend to not read about the play before I see it, I like having a blank slate.

Oh, I'm the same way!

I just figured, y'know, 'something' would be let-out aside from a moderately bland synopsis. LoL

Super-stoked about it, though. I'll be there 12.04!

Oh no, I totally get what you mean, just saying...but I honestly haven't heard too much about this. It's been pretty quiet, but maybe as it gets closer? There are a lot of shows gearing up to open soon.

This is definitely one of the shows I'm using my student flex pass for. I can't wait. It's the show of their season I'm most excited to see.

If you do a google, you should be able to find some of the reviews of the Intiman and Long Wharf production, which were wildly mixed.

My friends who saw it in Seattle didn't like it, but the cast is entirely different so you never know if that might help.

I really enjoyed the show yesterday. It definitely still needs some work, but I think it's coming together well.

Victoria Clark was the stand-out in the cast; her performance was excellent. Her purpose didn't seem clear to me until later in the play, but once she became an integral part of the story I became fully invested in her character. I was also pleased with the performances from Cassie Beck and Jonathan Groff. I know there have been several criticisms about Groff having no depth as an actor, but I thought he gave a great performance, especially in his character's transition from pre-to-post war.

I liked the costumes the lighting. I don't have much to say about the set.

I think the performances were stronger than the actual text of the play, but there were several scenes that were very good. I thought the ending was fitting. There were several parts of of the story that weren't fully explained or that left me confused in the end, so I hope they work on that.

All in all, I think it was worth seeing, especially for Victoria Clark's performance. If they work on the problems in the text, I'm sure it will get even better.

I saw this show tonight, and I have to say...and I'm not easily impressed...this is the best show playing NYC right now. Sher must have done some serious work on it from the sound of it, but I can't imagine anyone not leaving this show feeling like it is a thorough evening.

Not only is Vicky Clark giving a REALLY solid performance, but Groff has never been better. The rest of the cast is equally solid as well.

Go see this show if you can get tickets!

Saw the show tonight, and it's one of those shows that are performed beautifully - Groff was great, and must be exhausted emotionally after shedding so many tears the whole show; Clark is amazing in her monologues, making us laugh until she breaks our heart; and kudos to the rest of the cast all around. All strong performances. The play itself is one that leaves you pondering what you've just seen, especially since the synopsis is so vague, that the audience leaves the theatre much quieter than I'd seen in recent memory. But it's one that you should definitely see.

By the way, was able to use a discount last week to get a first row ticket for tonight (can't go without that Groff Spittle™) so there's still some availability.

C'mon already...freaking extend this so I can see it. It's SO not fair that is closes DAYS before I can be in the city.

DAMN.

I REALLY need to see this. This video preview of it looks soooo fantastic. And it's about time I see a play (as in non-musical) again- I have not seen a play in forever, and I love them :)

Plus, you know, I need my Groff fix big time:P

(seriously though, even regardless of Groff, it just looks like an amazing show)

I shall just have to find some way to work in a trip to the city to see it by Dec 21st... I think it should be doable. I mean, my school ends Dec 19th, so I'll be around. It would be nice if it extended though, just in case for some reason I don't get a chance to see it by then

I don't need a life that's normal. That's way too far away. But something next to normal would be okay. Something next to normal is what I'd like to try. Close enough to normal to get by.

Conceptually and stylsitically, it's rather stunning. The text, on the other hand, takes a while to truly 'sink in' - I caught it on Thursday evening (12.04), and I'm *still* processing it. It's a little show, but A LOT (too much?) is crammed into 110 minutes. Not saying it's a bad thing, it's just a HEAVY 'thinking man's' piece o' theatrical splendor ... A mighty bittersweet one at that. I'll post my review later on, I'm sure. My best to all involved!

Mike...your review wanted to make me see it all the more! I love stuff that makes me think and lingers on afterwards!

Do you agree with the thought that the talent outweighs the material? That seems to be a common perception.
