So I just finished listening to this and I found it very strange. I enjoyed it, but the music is very very bizarre even for Dave Malloy. Many of the music seems to be monologues performed over piano.
Did anyone else get a chance to listen to this?

I haven't listened to the cast album yet, but I saw the show live twice. I don't think Preludes will be counted as Malloy's best work, alas. Maybe I'm jaded, but I remember reading the show was funded by a grant, so he had to get something out. It's hard to create on schedule.
I believe he also received funding for Great Comet, but I guess for that one he found the inspiration he needed. Just my opinion.

Bizarre is a great word to describe this album. I don't really know what to make of it. The constant beat in the opening track makes it almost unlistenable and one track is litterally just Nikki M. James vocalizing. I assume this is one of those shows you should see before listening to the album. I don't get it.

My boyfriend and I will be at the LincTix event. We saw the show and loved it but haven't listened to the cast recording yet as we'll be receiving copies at the event. Mostly we're going because it was only $20 and that in itself is the cost of a cast recording so we might as well get free food and drinks as well considering we were planning on buying the recording anyway.
