Thanks, taz! This is wonderful news. How exciting to look forward to hearing Judy Kuhn's very earthy Fosca again.

Posted: 3/15/13 at 8:13amThat's great news, tazber. Thank you! (Now I just have to figure out how to buy it without my husband seeing the bill. For some reason, he HATES that show. Thank God he's the only one!)

Gee, I wonder how THAT could be!
"Thank God he's the only one!)"
The only one in your household.

Posted: 3/15/13 at 8:19amActually, he's not even the only one I know. None of my real-life friends like it, not even the Sondheim fans. I guess it's a special taste.

You must be mistaken, Gav.
Sondheim fans are a conglomeration, and they all love it.
Maybe you're thinking of actual people.

Yes, for connoisseurs only.

My husband actually knew Sondheim when he (my husband) was working at the Prince office, so he's very much a fan. But he just can't bear PASSION. Neither can several of my composer friends.
I don't get it. I can't help but admire the show's sheer refusal to pander to its audience. Plus the music is stunning!
But, no, neither of us are the type to insist that Sondheim can do no wrong. I think he's by far the best we have (music and lyrics), but nobody's perfect.

I find PASSION to be one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard. Every time I listen to the cast recording (especially if I listen to the entire thing), it's really hard for me not to feel really emotional by the end. I hated it at first (I was probably in my late teens when I first watched the DVD) but the older I get, the more I'm in awe by the beauty of the score, and Donna Murphy and Marin Mazzie's performances are for the ages.
I cannot wait for this new recording! I hate the London album but I think this one is gonna be so great.

I have such vivid memoirs of Judy Kuhn as Fosca in the Kennedy Centre PASSION 11 years ago, I am glad she is finally going to have a chance to record the role.
With this, PSC will have a version of every SS score in their catalog except INTO THE WOODS and SWEENEY TODD.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

Ehh. I knew they were gonna fu@k up the cover. The image they used to advertise the show was so beautiful. They should have used it for the cover too.

Thrilled! I was disappointed by the London recording too, but I'm glad to get a recording of perhaps my fave Sondheim score.
2CD set? Does that mean they'll just record all the dialogue, too?

"Tony Award nominee Rebecca Luker will record the role of Clara for an ailing Melissa Errico on the PS Classics two-disc Off-Broadway cast album of the Stephen Sondheim-James Lapine musical Passion, Playbill.com has exclusively learned."

Posted: 5/7/13 at 8:51pm^^^ is Melissa really that sick to record? There is an OPENING NIGHT pic of her at ORPHANS looking healthy and smiling big. Could money be the true factor in why she is not doing the recording?

Posted: 5/7/13 at 8:54pmI'm a fan of both Luker and Errico, but this makes me question if this is something more then lingering bronchitis from over a month ago. I know it can be rough if you're singing nightly, but the article says she's on vocal rest. When I had surgery on my vocal cords (even though I'm not a professional singer), I stayed home and away from any potential germs.
