Posted: 12/7/09 at 12:14pmI just went by and the fan girls in line said they're getting all the tickets for every performance. One dropped out of skool because Jesse L. Martin is in it and she wants to get her RENT playbill signed.

Excited to see this. Doubt I will. It'll be a madhouse...
If I do try to get tickets, I'm gonna go early in the run. I've learned.

Posted: 12/7/09 at 12:29pmI know it's way early, but what's the process for getting tickets to Shakespeare in the Park performances. I've never been and don't know how it works, but would die to see some Pacino.

Posted: 12/7/09 at 12:34pmBasically, wait in line the day of the performance you'd like to attend. For this, I'd say you'd have to get there EXTREMELY early. Like, around dawn.

Or you can donate several hundred dollars to the Public Theatre and get reserved seats.
Glad to see Max Wright resurface after the whole "smoking crack with homeless hustlers" scandal.

Posted: 12/7/09 at 4:18pmSo, I have to ask. Like the Twelfth Night we just got last summer, will this one be a musical as well? It's got some dynamite singing talent in it, and even Pacino can carry a tune well enough.

Zzzz.
Why no Pacino as Leontes In THE WINTER'S TALE? His Shylock is dour and too manic as far as his film performance of the role goes.
Anyone think there's a thread of a chance Meryl might play Hermione? THAT would be sublime. A dream (of mine) come true.

Twelfth Night is very musical, it's in the script (of course, this was enhanced by the presence of singers like Raul Esparza and Audra McDonald). Merchant of Venice... eh, not so much musical. I don't even recall there being a single song in the script.

THE WINTER'S TALE, on the other hand, has more songs than any other Shakespeare play. Act IV has 5 songs in itself and it is pretty much a mini musical (this is the longest act and in performance can run over an hour). If you ever saw the RNT/Anthony Sher production you'd see it as such though some productions play down the musical sections more than they should.

Posted: 12/7/09 at 5:19pmLooks like I don't have to worry about seeing this one - I am no fan of Pacino.

Posted: 12/7/09 at 5:54pmI'm not a big fan of Pacino's Shylock in the film version, but I'm still tempted to try to go this summer just to see him live.

Posted: 12/7/09 at 7:25pmSeems weird considering the Bridge Project just did Winter's Tale last year. I'm curious to see what Grief will do with it. He has a tendency to make things "hip."
