Posted: 1/5/09 at 11:04pmCPD, I know I mentioned last week that I would get you information on the official opening in DC, and from what I've been told it is this Wednesday the 7th.

Posted: 1/5/09 at 11:10pmSo will the reviews come out the evening of the opening night, like Broadway?

Thanks Dottie.
Usually out of town reviews are a little slower than NYC.

Posted: 1/6/09 at 11:11amYeah, the the marquee does look confusing with two other ads next to it. The one time I visited Times Square (didn't know so much about Broadway back then), I discovered I had taken a photo of Lestat! When I took the shot, I thought they were all adverts, let alone a theatre being in front of me...

In that link that ThankstoPhantom posted, it says that All Shook Up closed on "September 35, 2005." Oops.
I like the marquee. They were putting it upw hen I went to work yesterday.

hey i've got a great idea for those of you who don't like the west side story marquee and prefer the legally blonde one.
why don't you all write the producers of the show or even mr. laurents himself and ask them if they could please just change the marquee to the legally blonde one because it's more pleasing to the eye.
#31re: Palace Theatre: Home of WEST SIDE STORY
Posted: 1/6/09 at 6:52pmI miss Legally Blonde. When this show clothes without recouping, I'll just laugh quietly at how stupid it was for them to force that show out, especially now that it's making BANK and selling out on tour. Oh well.

Posted: 1/6/09 at 7:00pmAnd how do you know WSS pushed out LB? LB was doing pretty bad.
#33re: Palace Theatre: Home of WEST SIDE STORY
Posted: 1/6/09 at 7:02pmThey were NOT forced out. You think Legally Blonde deserves to be on Broadway more than WSS?

"And how do you know WSS pushed out LB? LB was doing pretty bad."
LB wasn't doing great, no doubt. I'm not saying they would've lasted another few years or anything, but they wouldn't have closed as abruptly if both Liza and WSS hadn't been pushing for the theatre.

This isn't gonna make me popular, but yeah. I'd rather see a new show with fantastic talent in it (Say what you want about Laura, but Christian Borle, Michael Rupert, Orfeh, Andy Karl, Kate Shindle, etc. have talent and charisma in spades) than a tired, pathetic, gimmicky revival of WSS with a completely charmless lead.
#37re: Palace Theatre: Home of WEST SIDE STORY
Posted: 1/6/09 at 7:14pm^ And have you actually seen the revival?

"than a tired, pathetic, gimmicky revival of WSS with a completely charmless lead. "
Have you seen the show? Have you ever seen a production of this show? Are you just basing what you say off of other people's opinions? Do you seriously think Legally Blonde is better than WSS. It's much more "tired, pathetic, gimmicky" than West Side Story and it had a charmless lead. Josefina Scaglione is perfectly charming, by the way. So is Karen Olivo. May not be able to say that about Matt Cavenaugh but that is a different story...

Yes I have.

Yes, I have seen the show. I don't think Legally Blonde is a better show than West Side Story, I think that Legally Blonde is a better show than THIS SPECIFIC PRODUCTION of West Side Story. Laura Bell Bundy had more charm in her toe than Matt Cavenaugh has in his entire body. The show is ridiculous and I've seen high school productions that were better.

Posted: 1/6/09 at 7:32pmWhat about Josefina and Karen? There performances are MILES better than Laura's. I don't know how someone could think Legally Blonde is better but you are entitled to your opinions...

"Is it me, or is that just a tarp that's been printed on? Because, most shows use a thick peice of translucent plexiglass, or something... Right? "
i know i was shocked wen i saw that but i was walking back once they were finishing it and apparently the really big marquee posters are all just like that and they get tightened down and fastened until it is tight and flat
i guess it makes more sense and is alot cheaper to make and easier to store and get around
but i thought they were plexiglass too
#42re: Palace Theatre: Home of WEST SIDE STORY
Posted: 1/6/09 at 7:51pmSome marquees definitely are plexiglass. Maybe this is the new recession marquee style.

haha i thought the same thing!!
but maybe theyve always done it for that theatre?
i know its done that same way on bilboards and things in times square

I thought Josefina was a little wooden, but fine. Her voice was lovely. Karen was very good. But, if we're comparing other people, I think that Orfeh gives a more INTERESTING performance than anyone in WSS.
#45re: Palace Theatre: Home of WEST SIDE STORY
Posted: 1/6/09 at 8:17pmI cannot believe we are comparing casts from two completely different shows.
#46re: Palace Theatre: Home of WEST SIDE STORY
Posted: 1/6/09 at 8:19pmI really like it too. =)
