Palminteri stars in 'Bronx Tale'
Show set for limited run on Broadway

Chazz Palminteri will bring "A Bronx Tale," the 1989 one-man show that inspired the 1993 pic, to Broadway this fall in a limited run at the Walter Kerr Theater beginning in October. Jerry Zaks directs the 18-week engagement.
Palminteri, who wrote the show, plays 18 roles in the semi-autobiographical tale about growing up in the Bronx. New staging is produced by Go Prods., the company behind "Yonkers Joe," a recently wrapped feature starring Palminteri, Christine Lahti and Michael Lerner.
Palminteri first performed "Bronx Tale" in small theaters in L.A. in 1989 before bringing it to Gotham for an Off Broadway run. When the show attracted Hollywood attention, scribe-thesp held out for a film adaptation to which he would be attached.
Title was eventually picked up by Robert De Niro, who made his directorial debut with the 1993 screen version in which De Niro co-starred opposite Palminteri, who wrote the screenplay.
Palminteri went on to appear in films such as "The Usual Suspects" and "Bullets Over Broadway." His last Gotham stage appearance was the 2002 production of "The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui" toplined by Al Pacino.
Idea for revisiting "Bronx" originated with Palminteri.
"Over the years I've done over 50 movies, but everybody comes over to me and talks to me about 'Bronx Tale,'" he said. "I walk down the street, I have people yelling lines from the movie at me. It's bigger than me."
Go Prods. produces in association with Jujamcyn Theaters, owner of the Kerr. "Bronx" begins previews Oct. 4 for an Oct. 25 opening.

Nice to see another one-man show on Broadway. It seems we had a surge of them about two seasons ago, and then they sort of just stopped.
That's great. Love A Bronx Tale. Sad, though. I wish it was the version that John Lloyd Young did a workshop of a while ago, as 'C', or Older Calogero.

It's great the one-man show that eventually developed into one of my favorite movies since I was a kid will be back on stage. I wish I was in NY to see the run.
