Can Parade be done effectively if you take out the racial elements?
No. Then it becomes a "Why" show.
If the question is 'Should we do PARADE with an all white case?' the answer is no.
No. Why would you want to?
If you want a show that doesn't deal with the issues that Parade explores you should choose a different to show altogether.
Parade is, at its core, a show about how prejudice (both racism and anti-semitism)can be used to manipulate and pervert the truth.
Plus, it's based on a true story.
It would be like doing Sweeney Todd without the elements of revenge.
What about an all-white version of THE SCOTTSBORO BOYS? Would that work?
Kind of like doing WICKED without the magical elements. No.
Kinda like doing Starlight Express without the roller skates.
Even in the new scaled down cast (Still upset you cannot do the large cast show anymore) you would still need at least 2 black people.
I haven't seen a production with the scaled down cast, but it bothers me on principle that Jim Conley and Newt Lee are doubled.

I always thought the real bravery would be to do "Scottsboro Boys" with an all-white cast in black face, which is a real minstrel show. That it might be too ironic to actually drive the original point home, however, might be lost on a audience who might just look at the surface and call racism. Which would be understandable. But I think someday, "Scottsboro Boys" will be done this way and it will be revelatory.

You are not required to follow the doubling used in other productions. It may be the text of the 2007 revisal, but you are still free to cast it as large as you please.
Some of the doubling is pretty weird.
Kinda like doing "Sunset Boulevard" without the grand house and staircase.
Wait a minute...
Is this from the same people that did the all-white Hairspray?
