Is Hanke playing Tommy? That's the only role I can see him being relatively right for.
"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe." -John Guare, Landscape of the Body

Don't know enough about these actors to be excited or upset, but I am still very happy to be able to see this play again!

Here is a link for an article from a while back that stated the Arena production would be the start of the national tour; not sure if things have changed since then that would make this a one-stop shop.

Have any of the national tour dates been announced aside from DC? Is there even a website for the tour? A quick Google search didn't turn up anything beyond Areana's DC page. This tour BETTER come to So Cal. I'm excited to see Luke MacFarlane and not solely for... legitimate reasons. Hubba hubba.

BTW, if you hadn't heard, Luke MacFarlane is starring in a new short film entitled "Erection" in which he plays a straight man having performance issues. Personally, I think this is a smart move as it could help position him as more than just "the gay boyfriend" from Brothers & Sisters. But, beyond that? MY GOD, there are some other reasons to check this film out if it plays locally...

From an article posted on Playbill yesterday:

The plan is for this [Arena] to be the first stop of a national tour (an engagement at San Francisco's American Conservatory Theatre has been announced for Sept. 13-Oct. 7), but thus far no other dates have been secured. "If anyone can make it happen it's Daryl Roth, who produced the play on Broadway and is passionate about it," says Kramer."

So, it's not really the national tour if it only has, at the moment, two stops. I hope there will be more. This production is magnificent and this play, my God.

If anything it will probably only hit larger cities that reach out to the producers, much like the HIGH tour that did SF, Boston, FTL, Chicago and Toronto.

The term tour is used loosely.

The Normal Heart wouldnt sell in most cities. Its has to stick to larger markets.

Alas, unlikely to come to Toronto, as there was a local production last fall which was highly successful and is being reprised this fall. It was a very good production--done in the round, too. I'm trying to work a side trip to DC to see the Arena Stage production during my upcoming trip to NYC.
