The snippit is from a recent interview ALW gave. In the interview, you can also hear Miranda Richardson talking about the Phantom in the fair days, and hear some underscore from the flashback.

EDIT: I'm listening to it. Emmy Rossum is a good singer, but there's something about her voice that I don't care for in the part. What do you guys think?

I understand what you mean Millie---there is something about her voice. I think its just the fact that she is very very young. It is enjoyable nontheless!

emmys really good! but i have to say i am disappointed with gerard. i feel like he is "escaping" the vibrato and copying off of michael.

Patrick sounds pretty good, I'm happy to say. Emmy sounds beautiful, but weak. I believe she's classically trained, and while she sounds pretty, she needs to take a deep breath and make some noise! I can scarcely hear her.

I think the Raoul is wonderful - I didn't know Patrick Wilson could sing like that...I've only heard "Man" from "Full Monty".

I don't think the Christine is INCREDIBLE, but she's just fine and we really are lucky we have her instead of Katie Holmes or something.

The phantom clip that you thought was Gerard was someone else. And he was singing with Sarah Brightman, they to mention that until after the song was finished.

I'm not quite sure what my opinon of Emmy is. I think theyc were attempting to make her sound young (which she is) so there you go. I like Patrick, yay!

I'll bet they left Gerard off because he's the one without singing training and he's the Phantom, must make it aa secret...ooooooooooooooooooh....

In my opinion she is better than Sarah Brightman. I didnt really like her as Christine. Renee Zelwiger (sp) didnt really have a great voice, its just the way she played Roxie that made her so good. Maybe Emmy will do the same...although I like her anyway lol

You know, I have my issues with Sarah Brightman as Christine, but I can't deny that she can sing. I mean, she may not have much *emotion* behind that voice, but the girl can sing. Emmy sounds petrified. And really, really young.

This sounds nice...I think that's the best compliment I can come up with for it. Patrick sounds beautiful, as always. Seany-you have to listen to some other recordings with Patrick, he really has a gorgeous voice. I would listen to Artificial Flowers from the Tenderloin cast recording. It's one of the best displays of his voice I think.

I agree with you guys though, I was listening to Emmy Rossum and there was something off about her voice. I guess it was nice but it wasn't as strong as I thought it would be.

Also I didn't hear any depth behind the song. I guess I'll have to wait for the movie for that but the song is dramatic and should exhibit some sense of longing and fear and comfort that just wasn't there. All I heard were the words and no emotion, I hope that's not true for the real thing.

She's not even 18 yet guys! And she was probably younger when she recorded that. I think she sounds pretty darn good for someone her age. Thats not an easy song to sing

We're not here to cut her slack for her age, we're here to discuss theatre and critique performances so people can say whatever they want. They're just oppinions.

Patrick has such a phenomenal voice!!! I saw him in Oklahoma and thought he had the most naturally pitch-perfect voice Ive ever seen on stage. He was excellent.
