I'm booking a ticket as soon as they go on sale. AT least I'll have no pesky appendicitis to keep me away next year (as it did this one).
I wonder if Arthur Laurents is somewhere quietly fuming over this.

The royalty holders have no say over casting of regional productions (unless they violate basic character specifications, like gender), so there's no way Laurents can stop two performances of the show at Ravinia next year.

Not really sure why, Holliwood. But if I had anything to do with the show, I wouldn't want her taking my lead role either.
"AHHHHHHHHHYYYYTHIIIIIIIIIIIG GAWWWWWWWWWSSSSSSSSSS".
Although, I'll be there to see her play the tuba....

Sueleen, I'm wishing Patti might skip EVERY season.
I had a great love for her as a kid because I was raised on her and Mandy by mother. Patti, however, has managed to get on my nerves.

I would pay big bucks to see her play Rose! She should have done it on Broadway along with AGYG. But alas, Bernie thinks she and Merman are interchangeable.

Wonderboy, you are always my voice of reason. I agree. Patti + Mama Rose = Perfection.
It's not like she's doing a Broadway revival of the show people! It's a one time thing that I'm sure you can all manage to avoid.
Though I didn't mind Peters in the role, I think LuPone is a more natural fit for the role

I know Patti has a lot of detractors on this board, but Mama Rose is a role that's so perfect for her it's ridiculous.
I say to the not-quite Patti fans, see it (if you can) and let yourself be surprised. A lot of people thought Betty Buckley would be a perfect fit as Mama, and we all know what happened there. This could be the exact opposite.

Posted: 9/2/05 at 1:31pmSee, I loved Betty too. She didn't quite play up the comedy aspect of it but I really enjoyed her performance. Then again, I have been a big Betty fan for ages. GO see her in concert if you haven't. She is a shining star in a sea of darkness.

I'm about the biggest BB fan known to man, but I couldn't stand her as Rose.
Laurents' famous comment (to Betty's face, no less) about BB's performance: "That was exe----crable."
