Patti's Coulda, Woulda, Shoulda

Ok, so I really don't review things, but I just felt the need to explain how much fun I had as well as an incident that happened tonight.
I went to Patti's Coulda, Woulda, Shoulda concert tonight at the WIlliamsburg Lodge. Now, she did two concerts today, one at 5:30 and one at 7:30, each an hour and I went to the 7:30. They made it VERY clear you weren't supposed to take ANY pictures of ANY kind. This was expected.
So, she came out and explained how the night would work and she sang English Teacher from Bye Bye Birdie... I love this woman. Seriously, that's one of my favorite songs from BBB and she rocked it.
Basically, I am sure she did songs she usually does but tonight, there were two little flubs.
First, something was in the piano, so when the pianist played down low it rattled, and I am pretty sure it wasn't there when she had the first concert because they were really surprised when it first happened but he (the pianist) adapted and did well with it.
Second, during Meadowlark, she was halfway through the song when she had some sort of hiccup and it threw her off guard and then a few seconds later she stopped the song and got really confused and lost her place. It was kinda funny lol so then she asked where a good place to pick back up would be and the pianist told her and then she continued... that was one of the highlights of the evening.
I found that the songs from roles she had played were more emotional and she connected more than the ones from roles she wishes she could have played. They were all good still.
Oh, and when she sang Being Alive, I seriously got goosebumps. Amazing. Perfection. This concert was so much fun but I am sad that she was only given an hour to perform
She gave an A cappella encore at the very end. SO good.
Ok I am done. This concert was amazing. End of story.

Sounds like it was a great show!!!
Do you happen to have the set list? I have always wondered what songs were in this show.

Posted: 5/25/09 at 7:59pmI strongly encourage people to go see Miss Patti...whether it is her "Coulda, Woulda, Shoulda" show or "An Evening With Patti LuPone." By herself, she is AH-mazing! With Mandy Patinkin, you can see how well they work together. The chemistry between them is very evident. Her Australian and New Zealander fans are in for a treat!! from RC in Austin, Texas

Great review!
An online friend of mine saw this concert and told me the set list. It was two acts and had many more songs. Her "Send in the Clowns" and "Ladies Who Lunch" were to die for, especially "The Ladies Who Lunch." Too bad the concert you saw was only an hour, but for Patti it's still worth it. Sounds like you had a great time.

Thanks for the review!
I was at the 5:30 and it appears she did the same set at both shows. It truly was an amazing afternoon at the Lodge (I was nervous about the acoustics there, but it wasn't bad at all).
Hearing I Was Here from The Glorious Ones was great...nice to see that score having a life. It was also hilarious when she brandished her disposible camera and took pics of herself and the audience.
It was my first time ever seeing Patti live and it was an experience I will never forget.
(Sidebar: Saw the tour of Wicked in Norfolk on Saturday as well. Amazing. I had seen it with the original cast (sans Norbert, plus Taye), and this cast stepped up and delivered an experience that was to me more electrifying than what I saw at the Gershwin many years ago.)

Posted: 5/26/09 at 8:59amI hope this camera schtick is worked into all of her performances from now on. =P

Posted: 5/26/09 at 11:02amThe camera schtick was great...especially considering the absurd amount of no photos/cell phones/etc signs covering the walls of the lobby area! Seriously, they might as well have wallpapered with them.

I'm pretty sure it is lol
She did it for us too.
OH! About that, so she took a picture of the table up front and so when she threw the camera, she aimed for them, but it went to the table behind them instead. The man was SO kind and gave it to the proper table. Well, then this kid who was no more tan 18 I would say ran up and whispered to him "I'll give you twenty for it!"
Of course the guy said no, as he should have. It was so tacky.

Glad you had fun!
Oh my god, her "Ya Got Trouble" must have been ridiculous. Ha!
#12re: Patti's Coulda, Woulda, Shoulda
Posted: 5/26/09 at 1:40pmBoth "Ya Got Trouble" and "A Boy Like That/I Have A Love" were a riot!

Posted: 5/26/09 at 3:24pmDuring what song did she do the camera thing?

I saw Patti perform "The Ladies Who Lunch" for Steve himself at the Westport Benefit last year, to great (always) deserved acclaim... I think this is one of the first times she performed it publicly (and for Steve) and it was perfect. If there is ever going to be a version to top Stritch's it's Lupone's. She made the song sound as if it was written yesterday... it was almost as if she were saying "Elaine who?" as only Patti could (should, would).
Astounding and an indelible moment that shall forever remain ingrained in my most cherished theatrical memories.

Posted: 5/26/09 at 3:53pmMy favorite song that she did by far, even though I am in LOVE with her Being Alive, I am just completely in love with her version of A Quiet Thing... the song itself is wonderful, but hers was absolutely amazing... my fav :)

Posted: 3/24/11 at 7:33amHave there been any recent updates or additional songs to Patti's show? Afterwards, did she still usually sign stuff at the stage door? Thanks!
