So what do you think Patti LuPone's reaction was when she learned Gypsy was closing early?

I think Patti was probably OK about it. It has been a great, wonderful run, especially in the middle of this economic crisis and after being revived only 5 years ago. I also know that she is exhausted and would enjoy some time to rest.

It's been a great run! I am not sure there will every be a production of Gypsy that is quite this thrilling.

Maybe she can add more tour dates for her upcoming tour with Patinkin.

Yup. Though I'm sure she felt the blow for the other actors and crew, on her personal end I'm sure she was relieved and enthused as she has been quite vocal about how exhausted the show has been for her.

I'm sure she's now counting the days for her extended time-off instead of the days between the previously announced March closing date for GYPSY and the start of her tour.

"Arthur never wanted me to do LuPone Gypsy in the first place. Now he's trying to close me down. He wants everyone to go spend their money at Liza's show. Well there can only be one diva on Broadway at a time. I'll show all of you. I'm going back to tv where I'm appreciated."

maybe she'll replace Estelle Parsons in August: Osage County.
or have a role in the upcoming revisal of [title of show] that just HAS to happen.
