OMG - someone I know from LA just heard that Paul Vogt is going to be Shrek in the new musical on Broadway! (I saw him in Hairspray and he is perfect!) Does anyone know anything about this?! Or is my friend out of her mind?
OMG liek totally?

I know, right? I hope it's true.
I've been a fan since Mad TV. I met him once with my mom.

Not sure of the credibility of this, nor of the idea of it. I think Vogt is hysterical, but I don't quite know if he fits the bill or can carry a show on his shoulders. But then again, I didn't see him in Hairspray, so I can't quite judge, then, can I?
I find it un-likley that he will be shrek. I could be wrong...but then again this doesn't seem to be coming from a very good source...and I too live in LA :-p
I think it shold be Norbert
I love Paul Vogt sooo much, but I don't know how good he would be as Shrek. I see Shrek as a macho, unbreakable guy. Can Paul pull off being straight? Hahaha.
PAULLOVE.<3
Weren't they casting Shrek and Donkey from a bunch of nobodies that submitted a taped audition? I thought they were doing a contest..?
The Reality TV Show airs tonight at 9....
Yeah. Right after CLASH OF THE CHOIRS 2
The tournament of nobodies was for the reading. They never promised 'em a spot in the Broadway show.
Anyone know how the performers from the reading were? (Or who they were, for that matter?)
Oh, and for the record, there's a guy by the name of Sean Cullen who is a comedian who used to be in a comedy band called "Corky & the Juice Pigs." He might be in South Pacific right now, although I'm not sure if the Sean Cullen listed is the same person. Either way, he would make a great Shrek.
I think Paul would be a great choice!

The gay comment is silly. (I think you were just teasing.) But I've seen him play coaches and dads and "straight" guys on Mad TV before, so I think he can definately do it. I think of Shrek as a misunderstood hero with a lot of heart... and that's not far from his Edna!!
I also think my friend might be crazy. Obviously it's not cast yet. I can't find anything anywhere about it. But I DO think he would be a wonderful choice, too.

I still think they're trying to get some kind of "name" for Shrek. Mind you, I have no idea who they would possibly get, but I believe that is their hope.
I thought Paul might be a bit too effeminate too, but he could probably "butch it up". Personally I think he could be good but I think they might be going for a bigger name.
But, now, the person who mentioned Sean Cullen...that's genious casting!

If youhave seen MadTV youknow Paul has a great range. Yes he rocked as EDNA ... but he can also be so much more. This is awsome if it is true!
Wow, I proposed his name on another thread, so obviously I think he would be a great choice. He was a terrific Edna, and I think he would be a fine Shrek

I was in a production of NO NO NANNETTE here in Buffalo in which Paul played his first female role - the maid (I was Jimmy). Paul was great and stole every scene he was in. He would be great as Shrek and when he leaves the show they could get his twin brother to take over.
the maid? Isn't that the role Rosie is playing in Encores "Nanette"? too fun.

I don't know about Rosie, but it is the part played by Patsy Kelly in the Ruby Keeler revival.
Yes, Rosie is playing Pauline, the maid, which was Patsy Kelly's role.

If this is true , they have drastically changed their search for a soaring rock/pop singer...

They won't be smart enough to cast Paul Vogt. They'll get some big movie star and it'll be Three Days of Rain all over again.
Paul is actually great on stage. He made the audience care for Edna, the way it should be! He would kill as Shrek- laugh at him and fall in love with him at the same time.
Who's your friend? Where did he/she hear this?
i love paul in hairspray! he should play shrek!

I loved him in Hairspray but having a tough time seeing him as Shrek. Other than Sutton and Sieber - has there been any other announcements of the cast? I know there's talk of rock and hip-hop voices for Shrek and Donkey - but I'm thinking maybe they are just searching for ideas. Somehow don't see that working for the part of Shrek - but who knows.
