Paul the PQ "fly guy" updates: 9/24 (Steph's bday pics!!)

This message was posted in the PQ forums so I thought I'd pass it along. Don't be scared while reading it... the site automatically changes what you write into "pirate talk"

Ahoy! Forum,

me name is Paul, The Fly Guy, and I will be creating the aerial sequences for The Pirate Queen. I am very glad to see the support and love you have for this show and we just started rehearsals. From what I've seen and heard already, you wont be dissapointed.

I have received a few emails at me site www.TheFlyGuy.com about the flying in The Pirate Queen and linked me to this site. I just want to clear the air (no pun intended). Stephanie will be doing some aerial stunts and is looking forward to doing them. I did the original aerial effects for Wicked on Broadway but was not involved with anything that happened in Toronto. I was on tour with Peter Pan. Stephaine will be in good hands and will start flight school next week.

Thanks,
Paul

This show is sounding cooler by the minute. Fly, Steph, fly! And keep her safe this time!!!

re: Tiny update about the aerial stunts in The Pirate Queen

He's very good and his website is very informative and interesting. If he continues to do what is done in the past, we'll see lots of rehearsal videos on his site that detail the aerial work- it should be very interesting!

Wow. You got "I could've prevented that..." from what he wrote? All he said was that he wasn't in Toronto. If I was posting about being involved with the Wicked stunts on a board primaraly frequented by Stephanie fans I think I'd clear that up too before questions were fired at me.

nomdeplume, you are so correct! Especially with so many shows involving flight on Broadway right now.

He states: "I did the original aerial effects for Wicked on Broadway but was not involved with anything that happened in Toronto. I was on tour with Peter Pan."

To me that seems like he is defending himself.

Another note from Paul:
"Welcome, thaks for stopping by. I just want you to know how friendly and generous you guys are over at The Pirate Queen site.
Like I said, we start aerial training next week in NYC. Will will practice rappelling, swinging, climbing, flying and flipping. All this while fighting.

Let me know if you have any questions and I will try to answer them.

Keep Flyin' High
Paul"

Ummm, and perhaps he should add "and while BELTING HER FACE OFF"? We've yet to see :)Sounds fun... I want to swing and flip!

A flying female pirate. Wait...what? I guess it's one of those grabbing a rope, chopping it, and riding up the mast moments or something. Unless she's a ghost or something, I can't imagine why she would fly in the show.

re: Tiny update about the aerial stunts in The Pirate Queen

Tag...the accident in Toronto was only partly technical to computer program. The other part was do to some human error factors...plus all tech crew and actors were extremely tired that night. Hence...there should not have been that extra flying at 11pm at night.

Anyway, I didn't think The Fly Guy was defending himself...just letting the rest of us be assured of his abilities.

Lady Italy - I completely agree.

Mister Matt - more from Paul that may better answer your question:

"The main thing I have to keep in mind is that pirates DON'T fly. Even though they will be attached to wires, I have to make it look like they be NOT flying but swinging and falling with style.

You have a great site here. Thanks for giving Stephaine and Pirate Queen fans a place to go and talk about the things they love.

Keep up the good work.

Paul"
