Um, hello? Many already have the bootleg DVDs of both the Playwrights Horizon and Broadway incarnations of the show. Each one was shot incredibly well (almost broadcast-type filming), so an official one would be barely an improvement on the ones already out.
'Nuff said.
'Nuff said.

well, I've seen some clips of the show Off-Broadway on YouTube, but I've never seen any Broadway clips. hmm
anyways, I hope the people on ATC are right about this. they are right a lot, but I don't know, it just seems like too much wishful thinking to me.
I'd really like this to happen, but have a feeling this might just be a rumor...

I fail to see how that is my problem, yankeefan.

I don't recall saying it should be your problem.

In the playbill article stating the closing, the producer says they were lucky to have Grey Gardens be recently taped.

Wasn't that for a documentary, though? Not the whole show.

Oprah doesn't like to be prayed to with the *other* gods. She needs her *own* prayer.

well, maybe these are the tapings the producer is refering to. :)

This was posted on the Grey Gardens yahoo group this morning:
"Greetings good friends of "Grey Gardens," the musical. ...Despite the efforts and the desires of all to keep it running longer, the producing partners could not agree on the viability of replacing cast members who are leaving and finding the resources to extend the life of the show in the New York tourist season.
Our hope is to find new productions of the show here and abroad, and we are working towards securing a deal to film the Broadway production for broadcast and DVD....
Creating the show and seeing it embraced by theater-goers through three extensions at Playwrights Horizons and a respectable Broadway run has been a joyful experience.
And I am coming to believe that this is the right way to exit after all, with our original cast in the roles they created, with respect to Little Edie and her mother, Edith, to the Maysles, and to the numerous fans of the musical and its brilliant leading ladies.
And send no expressions of sympathy. I am a happy and lucky lyricist.
All best,
Michael

This is all making me so sad! I am by no means a religious person at all, but I certainly would pray all day long for Grey Gardens to be recorded!
