Posted: 3/25/06 at 7:36pmOkay...I know that the film has not been made yet, and it is unfair that I am not giving Travolta a chance by saying this, but Harvey Fierstein as Edna in Hairspray. Anyone think he'll have a cameo in the film?

I know Streisand wasn't the best choice for the role, but I would HARDLY call her a moron.
The woman's accomplished more in her life than any of us here, including YOU.

Carol Channing in HELLO, DOLLY!
I work with Barbra Streisand's cousin. From the stories I've heard about That Streisand Woman down through the years, she's not a moron--she's a calculating bitch.

I second the A CHORUS LINE and Peter's last performance of GYPSY.

Posted: 3/25/06 at 10:28pmBob Fosse should've directed and choregraphed the movie version of Chicago, if he had not died.
re: Performances You Wish Could've Been Recreated For The Film Version..#12
Posted: 3/25/06 at 10:34pmWhen Streisand goes on talk shows she has them move around the set because she wants the camera to capture her "good side". I never said that she wasnt accomplished or a cultural idol but it still doesnt change the fact. The woman is a moron.

Posted: 3/25/06 at 10:36pmI know that I can buy and have bought Into The Woods and Sunday in the Park With George but I enjoy them so much on TV I think seeing them live would be absolutely magical.

Fosse was slated to direct the film indeed, actually I believe he was supposed to meet Marty Richard the day after he (Fosse) died because Fosse had finally figured out a concept for the movie. I believe he told either Fred Ebb or John Kander that he'd win Madonna her first Oscar (it is rumored he wanted her to play Velma Kelly opposite Liza's Roxie). One can only wonder what genius movie musical Fosse would have created with Chicago. Although I believe Rob Marshall's movie is brilliant, no one can beat Mr.Fosse.
Staying more with the topic of this thread, I wish Michael Bennett had directed the A Chorus Line film and that at least Carole Bishop, Priscilla Lopez, and Donna McKechnie had recreated their respective roles.
Ethel Merman in Gypsy of course.
And while Carol Burnett is one of the few reasons one can get through the Annie film, I wish I had been able to see Dorothy Loudon's performance of Miss Hanigan. She was such a legend.

Julie Andrews in MY FAIR LADY
Jessica Tandy in A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE
Jack Gilford (as Mr. Dussel) in THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK
Zero Mostel in FIDDLER ON THE ROOF (Topol is unappealing and totally devoid of warmth.)

Posted: 3/26/06 at 8:01amYou can't say that Merman didn't transfer well to film. One of the few movies I've seen in my lifetime was IT'S A MAD, MAD, MAD, MAD WORLD and Merman is hilarious as Dick Shawn's mother.

Some of you are misinterpreting this thread. I am not asking which shows you think should've have been filmed. I am asking which performances you wish were created by a performer in a film version of their musical.
Oh, and if Fosee did Chicago. It would've been incredible. Even better than the movie we have now. I can only dream how amazing his film version would've been.

Regarding the person who called Barbra Streisand a moron, come on, please........That's great that you work with her cousin. Good for you. I have worked and sang with Barbra throughout the years.
I sang in her choir for her "Timeless" concerts in Los Angeles and in NYC as well as her concert that she gave Al Gore in August of 2000, the night he won the Democratic Presidential Nomination. And, also on her "Christmas Memories" cd.
Not once during all of our rehearsals, run throughs or performances was she "difficult." And, even if she was, that's ok. People are allowed to do things the very best that they can and expect that of their co-workers. If Barbra were a man, we wouldn't even be talking about this and you certainly wouldn't have referred to her as a moron. When a man is assertive that's great. But, if a woman is assertive, she's called aggressive or a B**CH. See where I'm going. How is that fair???
Yes, when Barbra does the talk show circuit, Rosie, Oprah, Inside The Actor's Studio, she does prefer to be photographed on her right side. Is there something wrong with that? Many celebs, politicians included have a large entourage of make-up, hair, and lighting people. Why can't Barbra?
So, person who called Barbra a moron, there's something else that's bothering you. I don't know what it is, but, it's not Barbra's fault that she's a huge success.
