Peter Pan

Saw this war wagon of a show with Cathy Rigby last week as it stormed through Cleveland. This is a great production. Every theatre-lover should try to catch this touring company as it and Tinkerbell fly around the country. Is this show still headed to NY?

PS: Take a kid along.

I saw it in Cleveland, as well. I was upset they could not do the audience flight, but Paul could not alter the historic theatre.

Yes, they would like to take it to Broadway. The only problem they have is finding a theatre.

If you check out my blog, I describe my wonderful Peter Pan experience.

New York is still planned - if they can find a theatre. Problem is - it must be a Nederlander Theatre.

The Minkskoff is their best bet. By the time the tour ends - FIDDLER should be closed (just a prediction due to poor sales).

The tour is different from the DVD, in that there are additions and deletions - some small, a couple large. Going to see Howard McGillin as 'Hook' is worth the ticket price alone.

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

I'm glad that it's different from the DVD. PETER PAN is one of my favorite shows, and the DVD production has some strange choices.

Capn could you elaborate on these "couple large" additions/deletions because as I saw it there were only two little additions and little pieces of dialogue that were added to the show and not on the DVD, but technically the DVD just cut those lines they're nothing new to the production and they were in the previous tour as far as I know...

Deletions:

-The song "Wendy" now acts as a segway into "I Won't Grow Up." They only do one verse, not the entire song.

Additions:

-They added the "medicine" scene from the original play.
-Panpipes added to "Distant Melody"

It must be a Nederlander because they are the joint-producing team behind the production.

"war wagon" of a show? I never heard that expression before. I simply don't know what the poster means or was trying to mean.
What does it mean by calling something a

"war wagon?"

p.s. I grew up watching Mary Martin and Cyril Ritchard in PETER PAN on television, when they used to telecast it every few years. I looooooved the first Broadway revival of the musical. Sandy Duncan was sublime and George Rose was superb.

"Ugh-A-Wug" is of course still here. Their re-staging of this number is what really made the production stand out in 1997, thanks to Patti Columbo.

This is the first time the production goes to the new Music Hall in Philly, I believe. Will have to see how the audience flight goes.

All audience flights are videotaped and displayed at http://www.paultheflyguy.com

I grew up with teh OCR (Mary Martin) and remember seeing her production on TV as a kid (around 1966`) and again when it was re-run in 1973 and 1989. Some people say it was shown every year. Was it? I seem to recall reading the 1960 tape was only broadcast 4 times in all before it went into storage and was thought lost for many years.

Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!

I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

The 1960 color version was definitely re-broadcast more than 4 times.

I just found my copy of the book THE PETER PAN CHRONICLES and the broadcast history was as follows:
1955 - Live (kinescopes of this exist)
1956 - Live
1960 - on video tape
1963 - rerun
1966 - rerun
1973 - rerun
The tape was then retired and for many years thought to be lost until copies turned up in the late 80s. NBC re-broadcast it twice more: 1989 and 1990, after which it was released on video.

How is Paul Rubin connected to ZFX? He must be their representative, but there's nothing on his site about ZFX.

Paul is a former employee of ZFX Flying Illusions.

Do they not do the audience flight at the end in all cities?
