Since Phantom 2 takes place 10+ years after the original, is it possible that Michael Crawford could play the role again?? It seems to me that it is the ONLY way for this terrible idea to be remotely successful? Thoughts?

"This show is never going to be about you: if I could play the part, I would."
-Cameron Mackintosh to Michael Crawford about Phantom 1, after which Crawford threw a hissy fit.

But you never know. If anyone can change his mind, it's Mackintosh, especially when teamed with Lloyd-Webber.

"Y'know, I think Bertolt Brecht was rolling in his grave."
-Nellie McKay on the 2006 Broadway production of The Threepenny Opera, in which she played Polly Peachum

BustopherPhantom, when did Cameron say that and what was that reffering to?

Last I heard there was a good chance of this project being scrapped and that they would just record a concept album.

It was in the Daily Fail not so long ago, I thought. It seems the lord is not totally impervious to the doubt that's been clogging up the world since the project was first announced. It'd definitely be a good idea though; he's seen success with concept albums before, and if this one does fail enormously, he can step back gracefully before ever letting it get near a stage.
