What are you talking about Dollypop?? Chivalry? I swear the things you say have nothing to do with what any of us are talking about!!! You need the help around here!!!
>"Children should be seen and not heard". CORRECTION: you shouldn't be seen nor should be heard!
Vicky- I plan on ignoring Dollypop for as long as I'm apart of this site/message board or whatever you would like to call it!

That's a good thing to do ChristineDaae.
Say when are you going to see phantom again? Im supposedly going next week.. ^ _ ^
I hope you meet Hugh, he's really amazing ...
I might be seeing Aida this week but not Phantom =-( I have to see POTO soon, I'll let you know when I go...
I know! I have to meet Hugh!!! =-D
Relevant to the subject of Phantom fans seeing only POTO and never moving on to other wonderful shows: Just this evening I found these two comments on a message board. Without giving names or the location, here is what two fans said:
---------------------------------------------------------------
(1.)" When I first saw Phantom in Toronto, with Peter
Karie, (if that's spelled wrong I'm sorry), I wasn't in to musicals much either. Boy did that change fast . Thanks to Phantom, I was introduced to so many great musicals and performers."
(2)" The first time I saw the show was at the Pantages, in Toronto, in January '99. I had
not really ever heard of it before then either, let alone really liked musicals for that matter (I LIKED - big word, there. lol - Rock n' roll... etc.). But? I saw it, and have been a fan and musical lover ever since. "
---------------------------------------------------------------
I don't know how representative these fans are, but I suspect that they are not alone in being brought to love musical theater by an initial fascination of the Phantom of the Opera.
That in turn shows that you are incredibly old-fashioned and need to "get with the times" as it were. Please do not start making personal comments - its not very nice.

All this and to think that there nearly wasn't a Broadway production of Phantom. Does anyone recall that when Equity wasn't going to allow Sarah Brightman to appear in Phantom in NY ALW said in that case there wouldn't be a Broadway production. Equity quickly changed its mind and thereby allowed us years and years and years and .... years of Phantom on Broadway (joking OK?).
Then there was the Maury Yeston Phantom of the Opera. This was written before the ALW version but missed out on
a major production when the other (ALW version) got in first.
Has anyone heard/seen it?
This is a wonderful production! "Some people" favor this over ALW's Phantom. The music is compelling. It opened at TUTS (Houston) 1996(?). It's remains a popular show to mount to this day. My last M/Y Phantom was at the Walnut St. Thea. (Philly) a few years back.
Here's a link for more info. http://tuts.org/Archive1996/Phantom/
if this doesn't access, go to Jill Hobgood's Musicals site, a great source of thea. info.
*pesonal note: it would be nice if this 'theater' board would focus on theater related info. and "respectful" theater chat and take the personal battles and endless non-theater chat to a support group website where you can argue, choose sides and anaylize each other till the cows come home! just my personal opinion.

As if discussions about theater, or ANY kind of living evolving discussion, doesn't lend itself to tangents.

If you can’t stand the heat…
But really… Theatre people are very PASSIONATE and will always, as they should, stand up for what they feel. That is what makes a great message board/discussion. I agree that at times people can be a bit mean spirited. I, myself, have wondered if I have crossed the line a couple of times (Sorry TOT), but it makes things interesting. As long as everyone agrees that opinions can not be changed by name calling and hitting below the belt but rather through rational debate and persuasion then I don’t see why this board should stick to the “I loved it” posts, to the “I didn’t care for it too much” posts, to the “Well, you are entitled to your opinion, so let’s not talk about it anymore because I feel REALLY PASSIONATE about this, but I don’t want to offend you by disagreeing with your opinion.” posts.
There has to be some balance, but don’t hate someone just because they did not like your favorite show.
Now let’s talk about CATS!!! MEOW!
Let me clarify that I've got absolutely no issues with arguments/debates - heated or otherwise, and that I'd be as bored to death as everyone else (if not more so!) with "I loved it" and "I loved it too" and "I loved it three" type discussions. Tangents are fine too, and as I've said before, I don't see anything wrong with relatively off-topic stuff. This is a "community" and primarily devote to theater absolutely, but there's other issues on the fringe of that which should be A-OK.
The only thing I'm particularly peturbed by are personal attacks... Keep it to the issues, because there's plenty to say on them. We've had some wonderfully stated stuff on many of the threads here that makes me quite proud of having put up our rapidly growing site.
Onwards and upwards,
Rob
Your are right Rob, but a little good natured ribbing keeps things fun. I am a teaser...after all I am the girl who "never gets enough" but I as you can "prolly" tell I like to joke. It's all in fun till someone gets an eye put out.
