Out of all the stage doors I have been to, I've never had an actor ask me my name. Maybe because I'm 14 and don't look sketchy.

Nicole Parker of Wicked asks everyone's name and signs it personally to everyone.

I've seen people write "To a Fan" which, also, lowers the value.

You can say "Hey, they need to make a living" but if your "living" negatively impacts someone else's enjoyment of something as simple as stagedooring then you need a new living.

It's skeevy and will keep nice people from being able to meet talented people.

the older guy is cefnyc on ebay - i saw him getting the posters on ebay listed for $395 signed at first preview and he has WSS ones up too - i see him at basically every stage door - always ready with his silver sharpie

At the matinee, when Allison Janney didn't come out, the stage doorman took the items from those of us still waiting backstage to be signed by Ms. Janney. After seeing that signed poster on eBay, I'm even more convinced that the guy signed Allison's name himself on my poster. I'm actually pretty piSsed that he ruined my poster and wish I knew what to do about it. It looks like a four year-old scribbled on it.

I see that guy (the one in the pic with Dolly) ALL the time! He goes back to shows numerous times and gets the entire casts signature on several posters.

the broadway.com does it again. while it is signed by 5 people including Dolly none of the other signatures are the folks listed

SJB's autograph is quite significant, anyone who has seen it knows that she didn't sign the poster.

My poster is not from eBay. My poster is from when I saw the show and went to the stagedoor. The stage door attendant claimed to have taken our items back to be signed by Ms. Janney, but the signature on my poster is not hers. Who do I report that to?

Well, just because the autograph wasn't paid for doesn't mean it's okay for personnel at the Marquis to be forging Ms Janney's autograph. If you can prove without a reasonable doubt that it is a forgery I'd report it to the theatre or, even, Ms Janney herself.

Now, remember, a lot of celebs have two signatures...a slow one and a fast one. The slow one is usually neater and the fast one often resembles scribble. Before you drag someone through the mud make sure you're right. You could take a photo and post it here or you can have it authenticated but that would cost you money.

I realize that sometimes a performer has more than one signature or that it may not look the same depending on how solid the surface is. I've been collecting signatures since I was little. People may have more than one signature, but they don't have different handwriting. Take a gander. Sketchy, right?

When someone signs their own name, they sign it with confidence and not with a shaky hand, hesitating to figure out how to form the letters. It looks like a child wrote it. I'm a reasonable person. All the attendant had to do was say that she wasn't coming out instead of making a big production of collecting our items and taking them backstage.

One would also think that, given the sufficient amount of space there appears to be on the poster, that she wouldn't have signed over her face either.

I totally see what you mean. If I were you I'd point it out to Ms Janney. She definitely has the right to know. She can take it to the higher ups herself.

Well, I don't live in NYC, so that isn't really an option. I just think it was a really inappropriate thing to do and am sad that the poster that I paid for is ruined.

Maybe if I wrote to the company manager... ?

To be a little bit of a devil's advocate, the windowcards, although of relatively thick paperstock, are still a little flimsy and can be a little tricky to manage. She might have been trying to write it while doing something else or holding something, and that is what caused it to look so shaky. The main reason I'm bringing up these other possibilities is because I don't know what the motivation would be for the doorman to forge signatures -- he has nothing to gain by doing so.

(That being said, I have a suspicion that the signatures passed out at the stage door by Laurence Fishburne at Thurgood were not all written by him. Some of them looked kind of shaky, which is weird for a Playbill since it is so thick.)
