And I gave him my poster with the cardboard backing.

musicman_bwayfan, I have friends who have spoken to that older gentlemen as well and know for a fact that he is a very big theatre fan that goes and sees everything. He is also very friendly and super nice. But he is still selling all the posters he gets signed on ebay under theartofsong and cefnyc. He asked Dolly to sign in gold sharpie, as you can see in the picture, even though she had her own black one, as used in the one on ebay being sold by cefnyc. Yes, anyone could have asked her to sign in a gold sharpie but I'v noiced that the posters he has at the stage doors of Blithe Spirit, Billy Elliot, Gypsy and a few others have all ended up on ebay under those usernames.

The old man's is NOT the one on Ebay. There are a few differences between them.

The picture on the left is the one he had at the first preview. I am 100% sure. He gets multiple posters signed. It even says on his ebay page "Signature positions may vary on this second listing. Both posters were signed at the same time." I've matched his signed posters he has had at the stage door of multiple shows with the one that theartofsong ends up putting on ebay.

BroadwayBoy - theartofsong and cefnyc are two different people. I know someone who is friends with cefnyc and knows the artofsong and they are two different people. I saw the gentleman in the photo so I forwarded him the link. He had Dolly sign with the gold pen first. Dolly did not have a sharpie with her and the stage door guy didn't have one with him, so he told me he offered his black sharpie to her.

I know that cefnyc rarely ever gets posters signed in person (the friend of his told me and I have bought a few posters from cefnyc and know from him...he used to be a "worker bee"). The dude with the hoodie jacket on in the earlier photo could have been out there working for him as I know he has people finish up the missing signatures for him and if you have a pile of posters and out walks Dolly, why not get a few people to help you get a dozen posters done on the spot?

Signature positions may vary...that could mean many things. Just depends where people choose to sign. Some people have favorite spots and if someone signs there, they will sign in another location. I got two playbills signed at God of Carnage and people signed in different locations even though they came out one at a time and thus, you could say the signature placement may vary in that sense.

BroadwayBoy - I have also purchased posters from both online users and I can confirm that posters come from two separate and completely different locations/addresses (aka miles apart...not even a Manhattan address).

I've seen the older guy at a couple of stage doors getting windowcards signed (usually in gold) - he gets everybody in the cast plus some of the creatives / crew and I've heard him say it's to raise money for charity. I happened to believe him - it's not like he's got tons of merchandise in bags around him and he never seemed shifty in any way. I hope he's not been doing it to sell stuff on Ebay (call me naive)! re: Photo Coverage: Dolly Parton Surprises The Fans At '9 To 5: THE MUSICAL

It is very possible that it goes to charity. It also could be possible that posters are sold on Ebay and the profits from the sale go to charity rather than auctioning them off at a live charity auction event...etc.

The old man definitely sells all of the posers he gets signed for a profit, regardless of what anyone says here.

He has been at the stage door for 9 TO 5 almost (if not) every night, apparently. I happened to be passing by the street last night and heard him trying to talk to the security guard, who seemed to be aware of the fact that he's a dealer (he attempted to guide Allison Janney away from him.)

It is truly a shame that people turn something like that into a business opportunity, but I digress.

That was really nice of Dolly to sign!

Why do you call him the "old man"?

He doesn't look that old to me.

Stephanie has been signing her full name at the 9 to 5 stagedoor. At Wicked she used to sign her initials most of the time. At her last she was signing her full name that basically took up the whole front of the Playbill. Both are very easy to read though and never scribbled.

Good Lord,

With all of the show posters and CD's I have signed, I could make a mint!

But I won't.

I do have the 9 to 5 poster signed by EVERYONE including Dolly from here in LA.

It'll hang in my living room along with my Chagall, my 2 Dali's, my Disney cell, and my Norn.

Hi all,

It seems that YankeeFan007 did some searching and found my Ebay site. I tried not to bring it up and just present information from a neutral stand point. Let's just be perfectly honest with each other...how does it matter or affect you that someone gets an extra playbill or poster done up at a stage door that isn't for them (apart from if they bump you out of the way so your item is not signed)? Just wondering what started out the whole thread here. Before I signed up on Ebay, and I bet that half of you in this message board have sold a playbill on there for some extra cash, I would get an extra playbill done up and donate it to an Equity Theatre Company for their silent auctions. The money that they raised help hire people such as legends like Nancy Dussalt and Andrea McArdle for Equity productions. I would still go back multiple times to get any missing signatures. When fewer and fewer playbills started being auctioned off, I decided that I should try selling a few to help contribute to my highly expensive and weekly hobby of filling empty seats at the theatre. So yes, essentially any money that I make from sales pretty much goes right back into the Broadway community from donations to Broadway Cares Equity Fights Aids or purchasing tickets to help keep the money flowing in during such a "lousy" economic time. I am a student who only wishes to do nothing more than get a signed playbill or poster to someone who does not have the luxury of staying after a performance to get a signature due to a commute home out of state or the person lives on the west coast of the US and can not possibly get everything they want in a short trip to the city. I also try to make a reasonable price and always give the option of making an offer. In summary, I'm not saving up money to buy a car; I'm not saving up to buy an apartment; I'm not saving profits to go on a cruise. I take what I get and put it back into the Broadway community in some way shape or form. In the last few weeks, I have probably donated over $1,000 to Broadway Cares Equity Fights Aids. I have receipts to prove the donations. They do 6 weeks of sales 2x a year after performances, have an Ebay site, and lastly do a major Flea Market in September. I feel it's very important to donate to that organization - it supports people in the Broadway community with AIDS (and too many people have died from this), Phyllis Newman Women's Health Initiative, and several others.

Best wishes to all and remember, go see a show and have a wonderful experience. Current recommendations: Impressionism (remarkable performances from J. Irons and J. Allen - Mezz was only 40% full), 33 Variations (I was at the edge of my seat the whole performance), Happiness (wonderful new off broadway show playing at the Mitzi Newhouse - yes it is not perfect but it is something completely new and original and has not been adapted from a movie or previous story...the new spark is something that has been missing from the theatre lately).
