Me too! I was so glad to open this up and read someone else say the same thing.

I just teared up seeing his reaction as well. Truly outstanding. I wish there was a video of the announcement.

I'm so moved as well. It is an incredibly rare sight to see someone appreciated so totally for the wonderful work they have done in their lifetime while they are still alive! We love you, Stephen!

Very moving pictures. Must have packed quite an emotional wallop! Sondheim looks utterly shocked! So deserving.

But poor Lauren Bacall ... she looks like she just rolled out of bed. A little make-up wouldn't hurt.

WestVillage, I'm glad I wasn't the only one. My first throught scrolling through the photos was, "Yeesh, Lauren Bacall has not aged well."

Tears
and an audible gasp when I saw that first pic of Mr. S with his face in his hands.
Bravo.

So moving, those photos of him. There is no one who deserves it more.

As for the Lauren Bacall comments, Jesus Christ the woman is 87 years old! And sharp as a damn tack. Let's see how many beauty contests YOU'RE winning at her age. Tacky tacky comments.

The photographer beautifully captured the moment Sondheim got the well deserved honor. Add me to list of people who welled up when they saw the picture.

Talk about visceral.

I sort of thought the same thing about Lauren Bacall at first glance, but then I thought, "It's Laura fricken Bacall, truly one of the last people from a totally different era of Hollywood...I'm gonna give her a break."
