The original movie is such a great gritty look at life in the 80s in NY as well as struggling performers, its one of my fave films (it even inspired me to audition for the musical which i spent 2 and a half years in, even though the show aint that great)
I can bet my life this will be like HSM, no grit allowed

^Agree with that he is really talented
Grit or not, it'll be all hip-hoppy, and old farts like me who loved the original soundtrack will stay away in droves. Bring back "Out There On My Own," sung by a truly tortured Irene Cara! I bet all we get is the title song.
(By the way, musical bomb lovers. The legendry flop CARRIE had the same composer, and a lot of the prom stuff had a kind of FAME-y flavor.)
Screw this! I want production stills (and a TRAILER!) for Nine!
This one is definitely an "... um, no!"
This one is definitely a film for the HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL/SPECTACULAR! set and not for those familiar with the true-to-life original 1979 Alan Parker film.
Could not agree more!
Just looking at the great pics you have posted remind me how great the original is.
I am actually excited due to the presence of Naturi Naughton and Kharington Payne from So You Think You Can Dance. Is it going to be as good as the original--- hell no, but I don't think it's going to be completely High School Musical like.

"Oh please, Over at 'Gypsy' Patti LuPone hasn't even alienated her first daughter yet!" Mary Testa in "Xanadu" "...Like a drunk Chita Rivera!" Robin de Jesus in "In the Heights"

Add me to the list of those VERY afraid of a High School Musical ripoff.

It looks like Gossip Girl mixed with High School Musical which equals pass.
I just wish film makers weren't afraid of adding some grit/realism to movies (like with RENT).
I loved the original Fame and remember seeing it in the theater when it was first released. A remake is not necessary.
Well neither is a remake of My Fair Lady (or pretty much any remake ever made)...

Ok, so if for nothing else, the fact Bebe Neuwirth is in it, will make me go. How HOT is she in this picture?

at least they're putting real talent in it and not just stunt casting all over the place like so many.....make that all other movie musicals are doing
Bebe is HOT in that picture and makes me think that the producers of "Twilight" should have cast her as Esme instead of that woman from "Grey's Anatomy." Bebe would make a very appealing vampire!
Is this remake based off the original movie or the musical (that was based off the movie)?
Sorry if this has been asked.
ummm Megan Mullaly is in this as well? And no Zac Efron? Can't wait for it now!
So which Disney starlet is forced to take her top of for the camera, and which has an abortion?
This will not end well.
i am glad to see Kherington Payne from "So You Think You Can Dance" a part of this. She looks HOT!
I don't get why everyone is judging this...we haven't even seen a trailer yet.
There's some video with the actors and behind-the-scenes stuff:
Here!
Who plays Leroy?
Collins Pennie is the only black guy, so I guess him.
In the video on that site, he stresses that this NOT a remake. It's updated and the situations have changed and it's more modern- in other words, it's going to be more conservative than the 1980 original.
This film is not a remake of Alan Parker's 1979 film. It borrows the same theme and film title, but that's the only similarities -- don't expect actors to be playing updated versions of Leroy, Coco, Doris, Ralph, Bruno, etc. The characters in this film are brand-new as is the entire plot structure.
Also, this film is not based on the Off-Broadway musical adaptation of the 1979 film.
