Posted: 3/8/10 at 5:33pmI don't even know if this is the board I should be posting on. So, sorry in advance! I've never posted on here before. Anyway, my aunt and uncle are coming into town. They wanted to take me to a piano bar where showtunes are primarily, if not entirely, sung. The plan was Marie's Crisis because they had heard about it from some friends. However, I guess they've closed. Does anyone have any ideas of places similar? Thanks so much!

Maries Crisis! 59 Grove St. Still open. That Magazine writer is an idiot! Check
their sources . Roses Turn which was 2 doors down closed 2 years ago.
Try and go on a night when Jim Allen is on piano. He is crazy but very entertaining!!! ( I think Mondays and Thurs?)

Marie's Crisis is most definitely not closed. It does great business. If it were to close, you would've definitely heard about it- a big article, not a tiny "Venue closed".
Jim Allen is Mondays and Wednesdays, maybe Fridays too.

Posted: 3/8/10 at 10:33pmIt's so weird all of the conflicting info regarding Marie's. I feel like I should go down and check it myself. I called as well and the phone is definitely disconnected, though.

Posted: 3/8/10 at 10:42pmI love Don't Tell Mama. They've got some pretty good talent. And Elaine Brier is the funniest performer ever.

Posted: 3/9/10 at 12:11amThanks so much. I don't understand why there are articles stating otherwise!! I mean, it's still in its same location, right?

Posted: 3/9/10 at 12:14amNothing about it has changed at all. It really does do spectacular business, even on weeknights.

Posted: 3/9/10 at 12:30amCan audiences sing a song they want or is it usually just set people in Marie's Crisis? Like lets say I want to sing a song and take the floor..is that allowed?
Piano Bars#14
Posted: 3/9/10 at 12:53amTotally allowed. Provided you tip the pianist, and have the sheet music if it's more obscure, newer, or complicated.

Posted: 3/9/10 at 1:12amDo you think anything from The Music Man would be considered obscure (Specifically, "You Got Trouble")? I can bet the pianist has Les Miz ready as well.

I love Duplex down in the village.
My friend also plays Thursdays and Saturday at Uncle Charlies, on 43/Lexington. It's always showtunes that night..
