I'm deciding on seeing one of these in CHICAGO, but which? I've seen the PBS showing of LIP but I dont know if Purple is better.

If you saw LIP on TV, then see The Color Purple. Besides, i liked TCP better anyway.
Well, if you already saw PIAZZA, go with PURPLE.
However, I would rather see PIAZZA 100 more times than PURPLE 1 more time.

I agree completely.
Well then you have a great taste, my friend.
In avatars as well.
Even though you saw Piazza on tv, I'd still suggest seeing it. It's 1000 times greater and more beautiful when you see it sitting in the theatre than it is watching it on tv.
i have to agree. see Piazza while Victoria Clark is still there.
PIAZZA. It will be closing soon on Broadway *sniffs*
And I have a feeling that PURPLE will be around for a while.
EDIT: Opps- sorry- you DID say in CHICAGO - my bad Still PIAZZA.

Definitley Piazza.
You'd be seeing the show on tour so you wouldn't see Victoria, but it will still be great.

both were equally moving to me.
but kelli made piazza for me, so without her, i would go for lachanze's killer performance instead.

He's seeing the show in Chicago, so he wouldn't be seeing LaChanze.
Or Victoria Clark - I was just going to say the same thing.

I would see Piazza, The Color Purple is really just a broadway musical nothing so special, but Piazza is really amazing.

Piazza all the way. Even a broadcast is nothing compared to the live thing.
Piazza, unless you LOVE LaChanze!
Piazza all the way!!!!!!!!! It's fabulous!
Piazza is the greatest original musical playing on Broadway right now. Go and see it. The Color Purple is a mediocre three hours of power belting and spirtual crap. Piazza is much more spiritual and moving.
I don't care for Purple that much.
If you're seeing TOUR productions...
know that Piazza isn't going to really be quite the same. Piazza will have to be on a proscenium instead of its usual thrust; it won't feature Vicki or Katie or Aaron. There are only 3 people from the Broadway company, but one is David Burnham as Fabrizio.
If you want to keep Piazza a true gem with that Broadway cast, that real gorgeous braodway set - see Purple. If you still want to see Piazza (it IS the most gorgeous show EVER) ... see Piazza.

What you need to do is see both shows and judge for yourself. The Color Purple is a great show and so is Piazza. They are two competely differents shows. I really wouldn't listen to much to the opinions of people on this thread. What they can't understand or relate to they usually hate. And as we all know, opinions are like ass holes, we all have one. Listen, The Color Purple is in its seven month, since it open it has constantly placed 3rd or 4th in broadway weekly gross sales and to date over 300 thousand people have seen this show. Some of them two or three times. No, as you can see by this thread, everyone hasn't loved the show but I think you'll agree, that is with every show.
Yes, you can see I'm really tried of all The Color Purple haters. I hope you'll give this show a chance and not be lead by others.
Responsible me: Go see Piazza.
Devil May Care Me: Flip a coin.
So I was sitting here staring at Eastwickian's avatar for like 20 seconds and then suddenly I went "Oh! It's a paintbrush!"
And then I sort of looked around, just a bit embarrassed, and decided to share that story with all of you.

Piazza all the way.
And I'm tired of the haters of people who share their opinions, and then get called haters.
Just because my asshole has better taste than your's does...
Kidding. Ish.
They're two TOTALLY different shows.
I personally LOVE both of them.
Perhaps TCP a bit more.
But, TCP is going to be around for a while and you'll probably get another chance to see it while Piazza is closing and this may be your only shot.
I say go for Piazza.

Once again, we are talking about the touring companies...NOT the Broadway casts here...since the poster is making a choice of which show to see in Chicago not New York.
Have no idea who will be in TCP cast - but with Andreas, Burnham, and Shaddow in the Piazza cast, you can't go wrong! It will be brilliant.
