"It looks, based on these photos, that they've discarded the 1930s feel and moved it into the 90s or the 00s, which suggests it's going to be slightly more political in tone, with a few parallels that might make some large country (say, the US) uncomfortable. This isnt a pre-WW2 look, it's a pre-"Coalition of the Willing" look"
As usual for Cabaret, progressively more and more twisted and sexual -- the only thing directors can seem to do in their attempt to make the show "interesting."
These new promo images are really superb, i like the typical Berlin style from that period mixed with the traditional clothing of the lederhosen and dirndl dresses. They nailed it even better as the Sam Mendes version, looks like a very promissing production !
As for the used in the costumes that is so totally Europe and especially Germany in the 30 ties, fur was always and still is BIG in Germany. When i see my grandma's old photo's from the 30 ties in Dusseldorf she always wore a fur coat. You will still see a lot of fashion houses and even in normal stores/ supermarkets like Kaufhof who sell fur coats in all designs and sizes.
"Are you sure the guy with the mouthpiece is James Dreyfus? I thought the one wearing the furr and the red/yellow neck tie thing was James Dreyfus."
Kyle, the guy with the mouth piece is definately James Dreyfus. Go to Google images, they aren't great pics, but you should be able to tell. I'd do it myself, but it all starts and stops with turning the computer on and off: - )
All of this forced decadence does get kinda tiring.
In about 20 years, someone will revive "Cabaret" the way Hal Prince originally directed it and everyone will call it revolutionary...

I love the look of it all. Hope it is wonderful and I would love to see it if I get a chance to cross the pond.

Why does Sally need to be attractive? I can understand wanting to look at a beautiful woman when you see a show, but good looks aren't exactly integral to the part, IMO.
Looks like Scissor Sisters meets the Aviator meets Cabaret.

"Celebrating a birthday this week: Rene Descartes is 412! Do you know who he is? Then why are you watching this show? You could probably get into college and even get one of those job things. As for the rest of us; Amanda Bynes is 22! Yay!" -E!'s "The Soup"
it looks differnt. Im not too sure im a fan of it.
But to regard an earlier post what do you mean Raul almost reinvented the show. (not sure if I can say this) but i have his performance on DVD and yes he was brillant. But when I was little I saw NBL in the role and though i dont remember a super amount I dont see a huge difference in the show between the two. YEs raul did it his way and NBL did it his way and Cummings it his way but im unclear how Raul changed it so much please explain someone.
