Pig Farm at Roundabout

Posted: 6/23/06 at 3:42pmI saw a reading of the play a few months ago in SCR in Costa Mesa, CA. I could not agree more with Margo...I, too, left at intermission. The play is truly awful.

As the originator of the ATC thread
, I agree with Margo 101%.
It really is the worst thing I've ever seen - on Broadway or off.

The link Margo posted leads to spoilers...if you haven't figured that out already.
Count me in as one who thought it was completely unfunny. Actually I lie, I laughed once and chuckled once. I did stay for the whole thing though.

I have a short description of Pig Farm on my homepage if you haven't been to it yet: http://broadwayreviews.googlepages.com
I recalled my early days watching Tom and Jerry cartoons. But
for the price of admission (see my site for their discounted rates), the satire made for a decent evening out.
I do not think that the critics at the NYTimes will like the show. But they never take into account price of admission for the general public. I think that they (the press) get in free at any rate. Does
anyone know for sure?

Okay. Stupid question ahead:
Is it a musical or a straight play?

Posted: 6/25/06 at 4:58pmA good friend of mine saw it last week and said it is wonderful. It was on my list of shows to see but I didn't have time. And as far as Mr. O'Hare always being the same, I saw him in Charity and Assassins and don't think he was the same in both shows. And was wonderful in both! I have become a fan of his from those two shows.

Not such a stupid question, ILoveMyDictionary. PIG FARM is, after all, being advertised as coming from "the author and director of URINETOWN," a musical, so why wouldn't you expect singing and dancing pigs?

This play definitely rewards the patient. I can imagine people who leave at intermission have a really bad taste in their mouths, but the second act uses the first act's setup to be consistently hilarious. I ended up guffawing non-stop for the last half hour.
Stick with it...

p.s. Margo, I'm moving at the end of July. Let's get together!

As someone who stayed until the end of the second act of Pig Farm, I respectfullly disagree. Yes, the first act is one big, long set-up, but it's for a second act with pitifully few rewards. This full-length play has barely enough ideas for a five-minute sketch, and indeed, with Pig Farm I got it all in the first five minutes. That left two hours and ten minutes for the rest of it to boringly play out.

Posted: 7/1/06 at 5:01pmI can't remember the last time my assessment of a show has been in such agreement with the preponderence of critical opinion. I did not find PIG FARM worthwhile, and it seems I have plenty of company among the critics. I know there are many on this board who were with me: BroadwayBaby6, Madame X, and most articulately, MargoChanning.

Just saw 'Pig Farm' last night. Really stupid .Not stupid funny like some things can be. Just plain stupid.
I did enjoy my pulled pork sandwich at Virgil's before attending.

The first half had some very funny moments but it just gets insane! I laughed a lot in the first half. The second was a cross between Inishmore and the Three Stooges.
Who's on First? Tom, Tina, Tina Tom.
I loved the cast. Denis was very funny, but the material in the second half was out of control. (I love crazy plays but this was just plain silly)
I still had a great time. You never knew what would happen next.
The show is very funny, it is just to much. They should cut edit the second half, it goes on forever with the death scenes. It made me cringe.
I loved the first half and would sit through it again. I was laughing so hard I was almost crying.

Honey,
I liked the first half. I was laughing my ass off.
The second half was really silly. The performers are so gifted.
They look like they are having a ball. It needs work, (a lot) but it is funny and entertaining.
I loved the young boy, he really made me laugh.

Posted: 7/8/06 at 4:31pmThere are great performances by the cast but the drawn out ending was ridiculous.
