I was unable to attend the Pippin CD signing yesterday. I hired my friend's 21 yr old to attend on my behalf (lunch, transportation and 'incentive fee'). She was thrilled cause she put the earned money aside for her next term school text books.
She returned with a story that I found so unlike the prior Barnes & Noble events I have attended. She got there about 12:30, purchased the CD and obtained a wristband prior to getting into the wristband line. Then when it came time for the event the non-wristband line was taken to the table for signatures before the wristband patrons!
Did anyone else attend?
How was the performance prior to the signing?
She said all the performers were exceptionally nice.
She added that thankfully all got their CDs signed and everyone left happy.

Sorry but that's totally not how it happened. My friend and I arrived at around 2:15 and we were told they had just run out of wristbands but we could join the line and be let in as "standbys" if they had room. By the time we reached the doors they were still going through the line to make sure that everyone with wristbands was inside before they started letting us in. Eventually they let about 15 or so of us non wristbanded people inside and we were sat wherever there was space, which was scattered throughout the area. So when they started the signing after the performances, each section of seating was taken up so a few people who didn't have wristbands but were seated were in each of those groups. But again, every single person with wristbands was let in and nobody was treated "unfairly". In fact when everyone in the room had gotten everything signed, they still let in the group of maybe 50 or so people who were waiting outside in that standby line in and they got their stuff signed.

I took half a day off from work yesterday to attend. It was excellent. Got there around 1pm.
Stephen Schwartz introduced the cast for the performances. First up was Rachel Bay Jones singing "Kind of Woman." She was then joined by Matthew James Thomas and they sang "Love Song" together. Stephen Schwartz then introduced "Tony Award Winner Patina Miller" to sing "Simple Joys" and she sounded great!
Rachel Bay Jones, Charlotte D'Amboise, Terrence Mann, Andrea Martin, Matthew James Thomas, Patina Miller, and Stephen Schwartz were all at the signing table (in that order). It was a very well organized event, as these usually are at B&N, and I will certainly attend more like this in the future.

Thanks Jordan...it actually doesn't "matter" because she succeeded for me. lol I was just curious to hear how it went from fellow BWW attendees. She did make it into the room and she enjoyed the performance too.
If I hadn't just returned to work from being off for 2 weeks I would have certainly been there. Just couldn't figure out a way to word the need to have the afternoon off after being out so many days just recently. "I need to go to a CD signing" just doesn't have the same importance to the boss as it is for us.

This sounds just like the KINKY BOOTS Rush Line Incident of 2013. People are giving secondhand accounts that make the proceedings sound unfair but a regular poster from the board tells us the true facts.
I'm sure gchris was there since Monday night waiting in line. Someone might have mistaken him for a sleeping homeless person though and paid no mind.

Clyde, If you claim to not care about me, PLEASE stop using me as a punching bag. I do not attack you.
It is getting OLD.
I HAVE better things to do than worry about what YOU may or MAY not be doing. Instead of TROLLING the line and seeing what sh@t you can start here, why don't you go and SEE Forever Tango and Write a review?
GET A LIFE AND STOP WORRYING ABOUT MINE A$$$$$ HOLE!!!!!

Wait. Is it witty or witless?
I don't know why you have a problem with me starting a FOREVER TANGO thread without having seen it. People do that all the time. And I do write reviews of shows that have some thought put into them rather than just "well that was a good nap, I'm glad the seats were comfortable in our subscriber seats." That is an example of something witless just in case you were confused.

Thanks for responding to my inquiry so eloquently. It all makes sense now. And clearly I see plenty of shows (other than PIPPIN 107 times). Might even see two this evening.
Don't really get the MOTOWN or merch joke but I'm glad it's something you thought was funny. It's the little things.

What disturbs me here is "JUST LEAVE MINE ALONE". Pippin isn't YOUR show. It will never be your show and no matter how many times you see it, you'll never have even the tiniest bit of ownership of it. Love it all you want, but you don't have any special ranking over some tourist rushing the show for the first time, sorry.
This is the side of Broadway fandom that just gets creepy. Anyway, glad the signing went well. I personally have found that every signing I've been to at Barnes and Noble has been incredibly well-run and well-organized. The 9 to 5 signing a few years back was incredibly chaotic in terms of there being a huge crowd (probably for Allison Janney primarily) and it was run so smoothly and everyone got in and out in one piece. :)

ArtMan, before it was edited, the post read "Go see a show or something, just leave mine alone", so before he was called on it, it did actually read in a way that my response made logical sense.
GChris has a bad habit of editing his posts after he gets called on his crazy.

Now back on topic, YES, I went. I took the whole week off and camped out front of Barnes and Noble just to be the very first person in line to Buy a CD and get it signed. The people passing by DID think I was homeless and started giving me money. I collected it. I was going to donate it to a charity, but I have (along with a few BWW members who wish to remain nameless) have decided we are going to use the money to get Clyde a membership to MANHUNT (or the dating site of his choice), So he can stop trolling the line picking fights and maybe find someone to love. And we are going to get Kelly2 a pair of glasses so she can read the board clearly and stop reading between the lines and making false statements. Peace out. Clyde and Kelly2 PM me so I can send you the checks. HAVE A GREAT NIGHT!!!!

I hope you realize the reputation you've gotten for yourself both at Pippin with the staff and just at theatre establishments in general. That's all.

Posted: 7/11/13 at 4:27amAnd Clyde, if you are going to quote me, get it right. "Saw it (Slept through most of it) Wednesday. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzz, Good thing the seats at the Laura Pels are comfortable, and our season tickets are in the mezz." And it was a sort of joke review. I was totally bored to tears and did sleep through most of it.

Got there too late to get a wristband or even purchase a CD. I hung around and happened to be standing by the doors when they swung them open and I got to stand right in front. AWESOME vocals.
AS it has been said, B and N staff were very thorough and made sure everyone with a wrist band got in. When they started letting people go to the tables for autographs, I left and started home. Having a brainstorm, I ran across to Best Buy and, after searching the shelves, got the last Pippin CD they had. I then returned to B and N just before they let the non-wristbanded fans in the door, and I was one of the last in line to get my CD signed. Matthew and Patina were in a hurry and came to the line and signed CDs quickly and left the room. Seated at the tables were Rachel, Charlotte, Terrence, Andrea and Stephen Schwartz. The cast was gracious and signed for everyone that came, even signed non-CD items like shirts and posters since the store ran out of the CD. Very organized.
