Aside from the screenplay I've seen which has elements that would work, I'm almost more in favor of them filming the Paulus production, provided they re-insert more of Fosse's actual choreography and some stuff from the book that isn't in the current version.

Pippin's book is of its time, very 70's Everyman. That doesn't make it a bad book. Its also a better book than a lot of our "best" musicals of late (I love "Once" but let's face the facts...
)
Imagine, in this day and age of the scene-by-scene adaptation of "Legally Blonde the Musical" a musical theatre book that actually asks the audience to think in metaphor...

Yeah weird choice right? But think about it. I actually think he could do a pretty good job with it. I hate the guy but i think he could capture the essence of LP.
Oooo....I kinda love that Lady Gaga as Leading Player idea (much better than Gaga as Louise). If there is anyone who can be simultaneously seductive and menacing, it's her.

Now I'll despise any adaptation that doesn't have Kanye as Leading Player, thanks a lot
I wonder when this'll go into production - the writer has a whole lot going on right now including directing a highly buzzed about Oscar bait Hillary Clinton biopic
Really like the idea of Jayma Mays as Catherine!
Broadway Guy, I love your suggestions, not too crazy about Hugh and Toni though.

If they Made this in the 80's then i would say Michael Jackson in a heart beat. He would be amazing.

Eddie and Halle would be terrible as the LP.
I think Harry Styles could work as Pippin.
Beyonce as the Leading Player would be perfection. I might not be her biggest fan, but I think she would play the role brilliantly.

Harry Styles would be good. For the leading Player I think i would go with a singer before an actor. Beyonce would rock as the leading player! Taye Diggs and Joseph gordon Levitt are still my top choices. Kanye would be interesting, i actually think he could pull it off. Any of the Jonas Brothers could do it. Casting Justin Bieber as Pippin would boost the box office and i actually think with the right direction he could be good.
I'm kinda liking the female seductress angle on the leading player. I'm not a fan of Taye Diggs I'm sorry to say.

Groff..meh. He could certainly pull it off but im guessing they are going to want a Name for pippin and groff has done some mainstream things but idk who knows. If they get a huge celebrity to play LP like Beyonce or Kanye then they wouldn't need a celeb to play pippin and they could cast a broadway actor for the role. But i still would LOVE to see JGL in the role.

Groff is way more famous than some other people on your list - Aaron Tveit, Logan Lerman, Chord Overstreet, Romeo Miller, Drake Bell (?????!?!??)
JGL's getting a little old for it. Yeah, he's only in his early thirties, but he's not quite the young student who gets bruised by life anymore. He already did that to perfection in (500) Days of Summer. Most actors don't like to retread old ground.
Given the success of this revival and its similar casting choice, I'd kill to see Beyonce as the Leading Player. She's got the dance skills, the voice, the talent overall.
Interesting note: in the initial draft I saw of the screenplay (by another writer), the Leading Player was actually scripted as a female. I've heard there were memos arguing back and forth about it between the studio and the writer, as the Weinsteins (then head honchos at Miramax) were really keen on replicating the experience they first saw on Broadway as kids, and felt the Leading Player should be male.
The screenwriter made a fantastic argument in response that the Leading Player's motivation, which is absolutely vital and central to the story, is to lead the character of Pippin to his destruction, and that's essentially genderless. The metaphor of the Leading Player and all she represents as the ultimate temptress played into the idea of "complete fulfillment" being the seductive element, and so rather than devolving too much into a conflict between two women (Catherine and the Leading Player) over a guy, her being seductive to Pippin physically is just more of the metaphor.

Very Awesome info..... I think i almost prefer the LP to be a Female just because you can put a different angle on it with the temptress thing. I get what you are saying about JGL and i do agree somewhat but i still think he has the boyish charm to pull it off. JGL has sorta gone down this road before BUT He may be interested in showing off his singing voice so that could entice him to lobby for the role.
The Leading Player has to be someone that can light up the screen and I really think Beyonce has already proven she can do that. I also wonder what it would be like for a White Male to play the part. Hugh Jackman is kinda a weird choice and i don't really know if thats really his kind of role but it would be interesting to see. Adam Lambert could knock this out of the park also i think and he does have a broadway resume.
I think Hugh would be better suited for Charlemagne.
If we're going with a white guy as the LP, then I say Adam Lambert, he was born to play that role.
Harry looks too young and adorable to be the LP. That role needs to be played by someone with a much darker, more glamorous persona.

Come on guys, Harry Styles?
Let's keep this in the world of possibility.
Nothing against 1D mind you.
I still like Efron, Groff, and particularly Harry Potter.
Would Justin Timberlake be too old?
For what role? Leading Player, probably not, if you chose to go male, but Pippin definitely, unless we're going Shrek the Third and animating it.
Is Pippin supposed to be a specific age, or age range?
Young adult more or less.
Boy Prince
