Great, you turn TLP into a female sex-pot, and now Berthe is a full bosomed senior citizen?
Irene Ryan is spinning in her plot.
The gimmick back then was an old woman saying shocking things. Now it's 2013. The Golden Girls have come and gone. It's practically commonplace. There needs to be something that adds new personality to Berthe's role. Diane Paulus used Andrea Martin doing death-defying circus tricks; film may not have that luxury, so you have to work with what's in the script. And a "cougar" type figure isn't ruled out by what's there.
If Joann Rivers could sing she'd be sensational.
If you're going for sexy, then Ann Margret for Berthe. (and no Bye Bye Berthe jokes)

Probably a long-shot, but I would love Toni Collette as the Leading Player. She's very versatile actor, and I can see her owning that part. I would love to see what she could do with the role, and I think she's one of the few film actors who could manage to break out from the established conventions of the role and really put her own spin on it.
Aaron Tveit may not be too out of the question for Pippin, given the success of Les Miz and his increased presence on TV. My dream Pippin is Michael Arden, but unless they get a big, big name for LP, they wouldn't come near him. I wouldn't mind Zac Efron or Joseph Gordon-Levitt, but Zac Efron is too "beefcake" (I know a lot of past Pippins have a kind of Adonis look to them, but I prefer it when they're more average) and JLG is edging on the old side. I can't stand Nick Jonas' singing voice, but he moves very well, and I could see them going with him. Logan Lerman has the perfect look, but I have no idea if he can sing or dance at all.
I agree with the idea of Hugh Jackman and Catherine Zeta-Jones for Charlemagne and Fastrada. I could see Channing Tatum, Chris Hemsworth, or Zac Efron pulling off Lewis just fine.
Andrea Martin should stay as Berthe.
Love the suggestion of Jayma Mays as Catherine, but if you go with a younger Pippin, then Jayma Mays might be too old. Considering Pippin is a recent college grad (~22), I assumed that "old" for Catherine meant "approaching 30." I don't think Catherine should be overly Hollywood glamorous, because it takes away from the message of the show. Mae Whitman is my first choice.
