mls777,
I haven't been paying attention to any of the Pirate Queen posts
because I don't want to know anything about a show until after I see it in person. I only opened this thread because I was thinking about seeing it this weekend and was interested to see if SJB would be out or not.
I have no rooting interest in this musical other than thinking that it is one I would want to see. From my username, you can probably tell why. I'm not one to wish ill for a show.
However, there is nothing wrong with what WannaBeAFoster post about SJB and the Wicked groupies in this thread. The reality is that her past involvement in Wicked is what brought her to their attention. It doesn't take a genius to see the SJB - Wicked - PQ connection. I have seen it for the past year or so from the amount of posts on this board.
The biggest instigator of all things SJB on this message board has to be Popular who has been posting every single thing about PQ and SJB since the show started. If SJB so much as sneezes we find out.
That was a really long post.
That was a really long post.
I have to say im not a fan of this show AT ALL but block is great in the show so i have my fingers crossed for her(get well)

First you say... "I haven't been paying attention to any of the Pirate Queen posts because I don't want to know anything about a show until after I see it in person."
Then you say... "The biggest instigator of all things SJB on this message board has to be Popular who has been posting every single thing about PQ and SJB since the show started. If SJB so much as sneezes we find out."
So which one is it? If you havent paid attention to ANY of the posts then why are viewing Popular as an "instigator" This poster has done absolutely nothing wrong yet is constantly singled out just for being positive and a true fan for this show. If there is something wrong with that then I am just as guilty.
It's a theatre message board. People can write about what ever they want as many times as they want. Get over it. Go PQ! Sending many get well wishes to Stephanie!
I don't see any reason why you felt the need to single out Popular. She's done nothing wrong. She's a fan of the show, big deal! It's not like she's going "ZOMGSTEPHWICKUDDDPQ!" Leave her alone. Perhaps the biggest instigator is nothing to do with Wicked, but the fact that Stephanie is (dare I say it?) talented? I didn't see her in Wicked, so don't even start with that. I'm sure she was lovely, but that has nothing to do with this.
Msls777, GOD BLESS YOU! Thank you for that. Our prayers are with you Stephanie.

musicalsFan: Seriously, how can you call popular an instigator. She simply posts about a show she is passionate, along with fellow fans. She doesn't stir things up in anyway or disvalue anyone. Maybe if you actually READ her other posts you would see that. Personally, I never saw SJB in Wicked, yet I think she shows amazing talent in PQ.
In terms of Steph deserving to open the show: I think the difference with PQ is that fans have been able to follow castcom and watch her progress through the process of putting on a broadway show. Although other actors opening shows are excited and invested, we have seen it. So for steph and the fans of the show, I hope she feels better.

"Listen, if you think this show is so terrible (apparently, more terrible than anything you can do at your superior intelligence level), then write a tune better than what genius Claude-Michel Schönberg writes, or show us that you have a better grasp of the english language than Richard Maltby Jr. and Alain Boublil."
People have tried to use this argument in reference to other bad musicals before and it's never been valid. It's a ridiculous and weak defense.
On the topic at hand, though, the cast was the only thing I thought interesting about this musical, so I really hope that Ms. Block gets better for her big opening night.

I completely agree. For the few minutes I saw Stephanie J. Block, she was great, yet you can definitely tell she was a bit sick. Still her rendition of "Here On This Night" with Hadley was great. Kathy was a great surprise and I enjoyed her performance, but the music was just not memorable. Don't get me wrong, I love Les Miserables, but this doesn't come close in my opinion. Sorry to have to be a pessimist.

If Steph left after "Woman," you didn't see her "Here On This Night" last night...did you mean that Kathy's was a great rendition, or did you see it before?
Wow..a get well SJB thread turns into a war zone of insults and Wicked banter! Oy!

I don't want to cause an argument, but I completely remember Steph singing "Here On This Night". I was late to the performance and watched her sing "Woman" on one of the TV screens. She definitely did the switcheroo right after "The First Battle". I know it was Stephanie. Though the transition was very smooth without many people noticing, it wasn't Stephanie. I noticed it wasn't her right away as well as some others in the first few rows. It was definitely obvious that she was ill though, but at least I got to see her and Hadley's duet before they switched.
Finally, someone comes right out and says what's been on the tip of every PIRATE QUEEN-WICKED-STEPH shill's tongue for the past year. The only reason any of these kids care so much about a show that most of them haven't even seen is because Stephanie J. Block played Elphaba in their hometown's stop of the WICKED tour. She was their first Elphie, and any show she is in from now on shall be gold.
While I see the point you are making Foster, it's not true for all. I myself (who is far from a kid) saw Stephanie long before she hit broadway, in several shows. Yes, I do have something previously invested in the show. Although I am pretty sure I would have liked the show even if Stephanie had not been in it. I love all three of Boublil and Schonbergs other shows (even Martin Guerre) and I love this one as well. To each his own, right:)
Here's wishing Stephanie good health for tonight!

No argument at all, rocker. :) As I said, IF she left after "Woman," which is what I'd heard. I was misinformed; thanks for clearing it up. I had been wondering how they would effect such a change between "Woman" and the battle, as she doesn't leave the stage until after, when it makes more sense to switch.
Thanks again for the clarification.

Anyone heard if she is definitely going on tonight? Hopefully our well-wishing did her some good.
Best wishes Steph! Feel better and rock that pirate ship!
I'd be SHOCKED if she didn't at least try to get through it. I wouldn't count her out, she's a tough cookie I only wish I could be there to applaud her when she takes that final bow.
i think if stephanie tries to sing throug her sickness to go on tonight, she will most definitely be out the next few shows. from what i heard, she was in pretty bad shape and "spoke" through most of 'Woman'. It is a tough decision either way, but i wish everyone related to the production the best of luck tonight.
Playbill.com confirms that the press in attendance last night will be invited back. It is still unclear as to whether Stephanie will be going on this evening, according to the production team.

your statement is still distressing to read. What makes you think you can criticize those who see the Pirate Queen as a good work, and who similarly believe that Stephanie J. Block should have originated the role of Elphaba? It's an opinion, and really, all the Pirate Queen bashing has gone too far. And just to push this further, I personally believe that Stephanie J. Block was a better Elphaba than Idina Menzel.
Not only did you completely miss my point, but you went ahead and confirmed it. Congrats.
I hope Steph gets well soon! If she does it tonight, she'll need a rest afterwards.
Seeing the show next Wednesday, I'm hoping she recovers by then....
If she can't do it tonight, I'd delay the opening.
Word on the PQ boards is that she's at the theatre getting ready
Keep the good thoughts going guys! Should be a memorable night.
