This show is so good and I love it.
I have seen it five times.
It is so strong and knows what it wants.
The CD will come out. People will buy it. The summer crouds will go see it. Come July no one will care about its reviews anymore. If this show can stay open long enough for the CD to come out... then Young Frankenstein better look for another rodent to fly circles over.
PIRATE QUEEN IS FEIRCENESS LIVE ON STAGE
GO SEE IT

By just looking in this thread, you will see you are not the only one who enjoyed it.
no, THE PIRATE QUEEN isn't really that bad at all.
im also in the love boat for this one.
Well, after reading that, I'm definitely going to buy the cast album, but I'm not sure if I'm going to see the show. It really depends what's on the boards that day. I don't get a chance to see a lot of shows or get into NY frequently, so I'll just sit back and let my mother and sister chose.

Wicked will close, In My Life will come back, Ashlee Simpson will take over Ebersole and pigs will fly all over Broadway.
We got the message that you did not like it
Despite what many say about it, hopefully people will make the decision for themselves & see it.
Yes, it really is that bad. Les Miz is my favorite musical of all time, Miss Saigon is in my top 10, and I also really enjoyed Martin Guerre both in London and D.C., so I'd consider myself a Boublil/Schonberg fan. Unfortunately I have to say I thought PQ was pretty awful and one of the worst shows I've seen in years. Most critically, I didn't care for the music at all, the premise is promising but the book a mess, and the direction is even more aimless. You could tell they were trying to build momentum, but it just didn't work. Even the choreography was a disappointment. I think Stephanie Block is talented, but she could not save this.
I think Jekyll & Hyde was significantly better than PQ (and to be honest, I thought that show had a LOT of problems, including an uneven score and some very questionable lyrics).
It seems to me that a lot of people do like the show, and in fact the night I went many felt compelled to give it a standing ovation. So if you do decide to go, I really do hope you like it. But I hated it. Sorry. I think there are probably better shows you can get on TKTS.
there is somewhat a rumor that pq is goign to close on june 17? thats bad and i love sjb. but that was the only reason why i went to watch pq. it was ok.... not that bad but ok...
there was something missing in the story...
the passion the flow.. something
I don't think it is as bad as people say it is. Of course we all have our own opinion and taste so it really depends on if its your kinda show or not. I think the show has some really strong points the costumes, sets, and cheography were great. I also thought the cast was very talented and that Stephanie was amazing. I enjoyed some of the songs and thought the plot was ok. It isnt the best thing on Broadway but it is good. Also you cannot go in expecting the greatness of Miss Saigon and Les Mis just go in with an open mind and I am sure you will be entertained.
After Stephanie Block takes a good rest... what roles do you think she'd be great in... aside from "Wicked"? from Roman in Austin, Texas
It's not *horrible* but aside from the dance sequences it is rather boring. I didn't care about any of the characters. The ending was dull. All of the music sounded like they just re-used tunes from "Martin Guerre" & "Les Mis."
I did like Hadley Fraser. That's about the only praise I can give it.
it's not a rumor it is closing on the 17th

You should feel fortunate to catch it before it gone. I want to see it yet now there is no chance.

Yes. It really is that bad. I will say that it was entertainingly bad, unlike a certain other unlamented atrocity that was pure torture.
I'll never forget the intermission of PIRATE QUEEN. People all over the lobby were comparing notes, trying to remember the best of the bad lines.
My favorite exchange is below. Remember, in a major Broadway play, in the 21st Century, a group of authors and directors and theatrical professionals are allowing the below lines to be said with the utmost seriousness:
Impetuous Youth: I'll make a woman of her!
Imperious Father: I hope she'll make a man of you!
Wow. Goodbye, PIRATE QUEEN. You were good for a few laughs.

Maybe if Grace pulled a hand-mic out of her shirt every time she went to sing, if the stage was covered in green vines, something flew over the audience, the actors played instruments, the book was more witty, and then a dog came out on stage and did a flip, you people would have liked it.
Maybe also it needed a sex-scene and some puppets.
Whatever the popular idea is, people will follow it. If Ben RAVED about the show people would have taken it seriously.
When I saw SA people at intermission thought they were on the TV show “Xed”, it was that bad.
But SOMEWHERE along the line some group of high-ups decided that after Spring Awakening “Broadway will never be the same”
And I am afraid those people were right.
The Tony voters were on glue when they saw Pirate Queen, if they even did see it.

Or maybe (now THIS is a revolutionary concept) they just didn't like it?

But why would people (in general, the public) like and accept some things on BWAY that are just crap and then not accept PQ.
Woe is me.
Perhaps because it had no names, horrible reviews, and no Tony nominations?
