My favorite musicals are Les Miserables and Aida. I enjoy drama and strong music.

I need advice on wich 3 shows should I see in my upcoming trip to NY. I can´t decide between:

The Lion King
Tarzan
The Color Purple
Wicked
The Pirate Queen
Chorus Line

Thanks.

Based on your favorites I'd suggest:

A Chorus Line

The Lion King

Wicked

Both Wicked and Lion King get bashed on this board a bit, but Lion King is a great piece of musical theater. There's a reason why it's still at 100% most of the time after all these years. I think A Chorus Line is something every theater lover should see at least once. If Julia Murney is going to be in Wicked when you're here then that should go to the top of your list.

I learned a valuable lesson when I saw Beauty and the Beast four years ago: don't see anything after it's run about three years: the show gets tired and the director probably doesn't police his work, taking out all the garbage that's been added by the cast. Beauty and the Beast is now a theme-park attraction. The Lion King has now run a decade, although I suspect Julie Taymor keeps an eye on it, so it may not be as tired as B & B.

I'd recommend Avenue Q or Mamma Mia, which are both a pleasure to see. The score for The Drowsy Chaperone is terrific, but Grey Gardens is a fascinating idea. I plan to see it in April.

I'd recommend A Chorus Line, partly because it is a piece of theatre history as well as a musical any fan should see.

I've seen Mamma Mia four times (Minneapolis, London and twice in New York) and really love it. I saw Mary Poppins twice in London, and really thought it was great.
I'd see that, too.

Good luck.

I agree with that list. Wicked does have a phenomenal cast right now. I saw them all on tour.

Anyone recommending TARZAN should be shot.

Please. You can't honestly recommend that show with a straight face.

A CHORUS LINE is a must, thought depending on how often you get to NY, you might want to opt for something else - it's a show that's easily tour-able.

From your list, and based on your two favorites, I would choose Wicked, THe Color Purple, and Chorus Line. If you haven't seen Company or Drowsy Chaperone yet, I would suggest those two as well.

Isn't "A Chorus Line" using all pre-recorded music though?

Dibble-
ACL's orchestra plays in a seperate room instead of the pit, and the music is piped in. So it's still live.

Um...considering Les Miz is a favorite, and it's currently running, why not see it, Chorus Line and Wicked?

Tarzan - Most definitely
Color Purple - Awesome
ACL or Pirate - I have not seen either but have tickets for Pirate

SA - If you can get tickets
GG - This should be easier than SA to get tickets for

Wow, it seems most of your information is wrong...
Tarzan is a waste of time. Its a good show to see if you want to see EVERYTHING on Broadway. SPRING is easier to get tickets for than GREY GARDENS
