"Defying: If you don't want to listen to us whine about "popcorn" (by the way, not the ONLY thing we're whining about), no offense....don't read the thread, it's not like we're forcing you to or anything... "

Alexandra, you are my heroine. Thank you for throwing a blow for the whole annoyed, head-shaking theater community.
For me, I rarely get to see shows, that's why I dress up. For Rent I didn't dress up a lot, I wore a jean skirt and knee-high boots with a nice V-neck top. But I still wnated to look nice. My high school productions are all pretty nice, in a very nice auditorium (we're a performing arts school, so we have a nice auditorium since we have so many performances). I just think that the theater is a place for a formal ambience and it's an atmosphere that deserves respect.
Maybe I belong in an earlier time. My generation obviously doesn't care about any of this. But the popcorn, the water-bottle-sucking, the jeans and T-shirts...it all seems really disrespectful to me, you know? I just want to have a nice, pleasant, rare theater experience. Is that okay with everyone?

Next time you run into a little brat like that, just pour your popcorn on her. Make sure there is plenty of fake butter on it.

Iheart: About our generation, I too go to a performing arts high school (Okay so it's an art high school....but lets face it, the Music and Theatre department runs the bugger). I was doing a show, it was blackbox so it was incredibly intimate, literally could have reached out and touched an audience member with out taking a step....lo and behold, my monologue comes and I hear the all too familiar sound of a cell phone ringing...
HOW DO YOU LET THAT SLIDE WHEN YOU'RE SO CLOSE?
I couldn't do anything since I was on stage but dear lord the look on my directors face when I got off was fun to see. Being that close to the audience really gave you a good chance to see audience behavior since the show was monologue heavy and there was alot of on stage down time. We have something called Cappies and Macy's which are HS theatre awards. These are supposed to be the best of the best in high school theatre (assuming it isn't disgustingly rigged...like it is). They are told to dress nicely and they are told how to behave. I have never seen so much program crinkling, food consuming, talking, NOTE PASSING, and ridiculous behavior in my life. The actors are right there, we are told to talk to you and look at you....what...how....my god....why? Ugh....I feel like such a whiny little diva but I can't help it.
What is wrong with our generation, and may I have a taser gun to fix it?
