So, as hinted at in this article https://dctheatrescene.com/2008/03/25/two-marriages-and-some-salza/#more-1156 , it seems the rumor has been going around that Next to Normal might just be showing up at Arena Stages in Washington DC fall 2008! And by rumor I mean it's still speculation at this point, but it seems pretty hopeful.
What do we think about this? I for one am REALLY friggin happy to hear of something more for the show so soon! And I'm also hopeful because, as I understand it, Alice has some history with the theater. So with any luck she shall be staying with the project! Unfortunately it also means that Brian is definitely out what with Shrek and all, but... I suppose I will have to learn to live with someone else taking a stab at Dan But the rest of the cast seems pretty wide open right now, so.. yeah. This could potentially be very very good!
OOO, I have a friend down there. I'd go if it happens.
This really has nothing to do with what you're talking about except for the fact that I could have sworn I saw another thread about this a second ago.
Anyway, good for them. I haven't seen the show but I'm glad it's getting more life to it.
Am I being totally dense? I don't see anything in that link about a potential run at Arena Stages.
He has a moment late in the play, when he realizes - well, I can’t tell you that, for it surprised me and I want it to surprise you should you see this musical, which rumor has it may be showing up at Arena Stage in Washington.

haha sorry, my bad, I should have quoted that part because it's really easy to miss :P
but yeah, it was just a quick mention, but there's also been other talk that it is pretty likely to happen. Now we just have to hope that something official will come along, preferably with casting info!
Arena seems like an odd place to do it at this point in time for many reasons, but I would be very, very happy if this ends up being true. Its about time Arena took some chances on edgy new work (though admittedly, they did so this season with 33 Variations).
This is a show you and I could see together, KC!
Actually, I would also trust the Studio and the Signature to pull off a first-rate production.
Exactly miss pennywise!
Shweet! I'm going to college at AU in Washington this fall! I will most totally go see this.
Has anyone told Jordangirl?
I'd go down there to see this if it were true. Hopefully, Broadway would follow.
I'm not holding my breath until it's finalized. AND the cast... Its gonna depend on the cast...
I sure hope it plays Arena. After all I've read on here (except for WBaF's thoughts...whom I do respect), I really want to see it so bad. And after seeing Kiss at the Signature this weekend, my love for theatre in DC is renewed!
ooh, that'd be close enough to NY for me to see. I hope it happens. Boston philly or Wash were the 3 places i was really hoping for cause of their proximity to NY
I just got an email from Arena which included a note that they would be announcing their new season soon. It made reference to including a possible "Broadway Bound" musical. Here's to hoping its Next To Normal.
"Loved what you saw on our stages this season? Excited about what's happening next? Get ready, Arena Stage will soon be announcing our next season! Keep your eyes peeled for our season annoucement in the next few weeks. You'll be one of the first to know when we send out our special season announcement A-Blast! From the great classic American Giants to ambitious world premieres to perhaps the next Broadway-bound musical, you'll find it all in our 2008/2009 season."
Its now been confirmed:

Yay. Now we just have to wait on the cast.
OOH yay, close enough to make a day trip. Now we just have to wait on dates and casting
Nice. Fingers crossed awaiting casting. I've got so many friends in the area since I used to live there...this will be fun! Hopefully. :)
That's awesome! I can't wait to hear more.
"a run envisioned as a precursor to presenting the show in its new form again in New York"
Interesting.
Fabulous news! Thanks for starting my day off on a positive note, KC!
This is great news!! I now have an excuse to visit the nation's capital this fall.
I hope Ripley, Tveit, and Damiano continue with it. I'm also curious to see who replaces D'Arcy James.
Edit: My first double post ever!
