The entire production history of Millie, including readings, workshops, La Jolla, road to Broadway and Broadway can be found on the first unofficial fan site. It's a great data base for information about the show.
The La Jolla production was vastly different from what ended up on Broadway. "Not For the Life Of Me" had not been written yet, Both Muzzy's song were completely different and it included a slew of songs that were cut and replaced with others like "There'll Be Some Changes Made", "Stumbling", "One Manhattan Straight Up", "You Can Count On Me", "Then What, Baby?", "Say That" and "Jazz Baby"...

Posted: 6/4/04 at 3:38pmI thought it was Erin Dilly but I wasn't sure. I didn't understand why Musetta1957 said Sutton, I know she did start out as understudy. Thanks!

I said Sutton because she did indeed play Millie before audiences in La Jolla -- Erin Dilly did not.

This makes me sooooo sad, millie was my FAVORITE show!! Did anyone else read that it is closing in the West End on June 26th?
I really don't think I can see Kristen as millie, that would be weird, she just doesn't seem like millie to me. But I also have trouble watching the west end and tour production millies, they were great, but I heard Sutton as millie first and she is just sooo amazing in that part that I don't think anyone can do as well as she did.
This makes me sad thinking of it closing!!

Posted: 6/4/04 at 11:50pmDarcie Roberts was playing Millie in the tour (at least when it came to Denver) and she was great. Granted, I never got to New York to see Sutton Foster, but Darcie had great energy, an amazing voice and boy can she dance. I think Kristin Chenoweth would have been the completely wrong choice for the role. I see her more as Miss Dorothy.
re: Pre Broadway Millie#18
Posted: 6/5/04 at 12:00amEhh, she was okay. She had a strange pseudo-Germanic/Amish accent going on.

well i am sure if kristan was the 1st millie on broadway you guys would be saying that she is the only one made to play that role and you could not see anyone else do it! i am sure if she was the 1st to do the show, it would be totally diffrent from what it is now and the deliever of the songs would definatly be diffrent!
has anyone ever heard kristan full out belt??? i have her solo cd and she belts some in the songs "let yourself go, the 2nd song on the the cd( i dont remeber the name off hand) and the girl om 13g. but has she or does she full out have a powerful belt?? thanks :)

Are you talking about Sutton Foster? Because yes, she can belt. Holy crap, can she belt.

Thank you for spelling her name right on the second try.
And FYI, I agree with your general sentiment.
