My guess since Aaron was shafted is "Light" for next to normal. It's really the best one out of context ~ and the cut they did for the cast recording doesn't give anything away. Had he been nominated...that would have been an interesting call ~ do "You Don't Know/I Am The One" and leave Jenn out of the performance even though that's what they did at the Lortels last year?
Given the situation as is, I'm thinking they'll go with "Light". I just don't see "Just Another Day" working completely out of context at all.
(As far as Aaron's boxers only turn, people would then scream false advertising as he won't be in for a while after the Tonys... LOL.)
I would LOVE to see them do an abbreviated version of SOLIDARITY - ending with the 3 Billy's on stage. They could have Grandma and Michael and Mom and everybody coming out on that stage by the end. I'd love to have a bit that would bring the ballet girls on TV.
I think ROCK OF AGES should do "I Wanna Rock" into "More than Words" into "Don't Stop".
And I think Hugh Jackman should be the host every year.
The numbers are not picked to show off the nominees (unless you are Patti LuPone), if it works out that way even better.
The numbers are picked to get the general public to see the show, so they usually do a big, splashy, happy number.
As far as paying the WEST SIDE STORY full cast, the show is making the big bucks so they better put that full cast up there because they are the best thing about the show and not the leads.
And medlies should be Banned!

Billy Elliot should do some sort of edited version of the curtain call. That'd allow some exposure for most of the nominees, right?
I am almost shocked to see someone say here that "Just Another Day" from NEXT TO NORMAL wouldn't work out of context. It's the only thing that works out of context.
It introduces all the principle characters and tells the story of the show in a strong narrative without giving anything away, which is exactly what should be conveyed to potential ticket buyers. The song leaves you wanting to know what's wrong with Diana, which makes you want to see the show.
It's far and away the obvious choice.
Regarding HAIR, I'm crossing my fingers that they'll do the title song and interact with the audience. It's high energy, recognizable, and features their two individual nominees. Considering they just did "Aquarius" and "Let The Sun Shine In" on Letterman, I'd hope they wouldn't do that again.

I really hope BE does something like this:

I am really tired of seeing the same routine from the Billys.
If the Shrek producers really want to sell tickets, they'll do "Who I'd Be." Watching a video of Brian singing it in Seattle is what convinced me to see the show. The only problem would be how to take care of Sutton's part of the song. I know practically everyone has seen the film, but it would give Fiona's secret away to those who are not familiar with the story.
If they want to do a number that features Brian and Sutton, please don't do "I Think I Got You Beat." I would rather not see farting on the Tony Awards.
It only shows that something's wrong with Diana if they go as far as the bread on the floor, and I don't see them doing that. You need all the stuff leading into it and through the sandwich thing for it to make ANY sense.
I just personally feel "Light" is the better song for them to use. Like I said, with the lyric cuts they made for the cast recording, it gives nothing away, but conveys the ultimate message of the show.

"Just Another Day" is much more energetic and 'upbeat' (I use the term loosely).... it really does seem like the perfect number for a Tony telecast.
I'm with SomethingWicked.
I think ROA will do Here I Go Again, it starts slow, it builds up, it shows off everyone...but Id like to see them do something they havent already done on a TV appearance.

Is there any question that they won't do the most recognizable song from their I LOVE THE 80's soundtrack????
"Don't Stop Believin'", obvs.
Billy Elliot- Some mess with the 3 Billy's
Next to Normal- Just Another Day
Rock of Ages- Something Constantine sings.
Shrek- Not really sure, they might want to do something that features Sieber, they're best shot at winning, so maybe Things Are Looking Up? They will most likely just do a Medley.
Guys and Dolls- Sit Down...
Hair- Let the Sun Shine
West Side Story- The Quintet. It not only features both Olivo and Scaglione, but some of the new Spanish lyrics as well, I believe.
Billy Elliot: Perhaps a medley of Shine and Solidarity? (They could get each Billy to make an appearance over the course of the songs.)
Next to Normal: Just Another Day (yes Light would work but I think that Just Another Day is really the best choice.)
Rock of Ages: Don't Stop Believing
Shrek: Don't know this one as well...I do like "Who I'd Be" but think they'll choose something that's not a ballad
Guys and Dolls: Luck be a Lady (it's the anthem of the show)
Hair: I wouldn't be a bit surprised if they did "Hair" and went out into the audience during the song
West Side Story: My personal favorite was "Siento Hermosa" ("I Feel Pretty") but I'd be surprised if "America" wasn't thrown into a medley of some nature (if that's what they do) If they stick to one song, I think it might be the quintet
I just hope all shows avoid medleys.
And I think Rock of Ages should do "Here I Go Again" for sure... I randomly caught them doing that on some TV show once and it came across very well.
Hair has so many options. And actually Hair might be able to pull off a medley and not have it come across as a disaster.
Billy has to do something besides Electricity! I love the combo video that was posted above.
At the 1980s Tonys they performed America from WSS. I think they should do a combo of America and Cool or a number that features Josefina.
Hair has to do Hair, it's my favorite number in the show and gets one of the longest and loudest applause in the show.
DCR have you seen N2N?

I think it would be really cool if BE did Solidarity and was able to work in all three boys...or as someone mentioned, a medley of Solidarity, Angry Dance, and Electricity...I think the bow song would be a bit dull for their Tony performance, personally...
I think WSS should do Dance at the Gym.

WSS will do the Quintet, of course. not "Dance at the Gym"
and GUYS & DOLLS will not do "Luck..." , they will be doing "Sit Down" -- absolutely riveting number by Tituss and the cast. Also features some spectacular new arrangements.
Love it!!!
Billy Elliot: IdinaBellFoster I agree, it will be some mess with the 3 Billys. And for those that are saying that its all they've done on tv (Electricity) remember last year Passing Strange mostly did Keys on every tv appearance and sure enough they rocked it out at the tonys. If you got something that works for you I dont see why theyd change it.
Next to Normal: I still have yet to hear the score so I cannot decide.
Rock of Ages: Dont Stop Believing. We all know the song, the audience will know it, it is an enjoyable song.
Shrek: I have a feeling they will do a medley. It will for sure include either Who I'd Be (which Brian is stunning in) or he could very well sing The Wall. But he for sure will be featured. But if they just want to feature him they could do Who Id Be into Freak Flag.
Guys and Dolls: I have a feeling they will either do Luck Be a Lady cuz its the familiar choice but I would love to see Sit Down You're Rocking the Boat because it seems to be the only bright spot of the production.
West Side Story: The Quintet. It shows off the whole cast and leads.
Hair: They will do something up beat and I have a feeling they will do the title number to show off Will and Gavin and is just so high energy it would make the people watching at home go and just buy tickets right away.
First off, I have an odd feeling that the Opening number will be "9to5" not sure why but I get that feeling.
Shrek will likely do "What's up Duloc?" into "I think I've got you beat". Although they may choose to only do "Duloc" and have some sort of pre-filmed intro from Brian as Shrek.
Rock of Ages will either do Nothing But A Good Time, of Here I Go Again
"DCR have you seen N2N?"
Yes, why?
Oh, It seems like you were always dissing it. Sometimes people who always push it aside havn't really seen it. ok, just checking.

Oh. I didn't even say anything about ti in this thread... Anyway. Yeah I saw it and was underwhelmed, I know why people like it but it's not for me. I was overall disappointed by the new shows this year.
