NEXT TO NORMAL: "Just Another Day" or "Light"
SHREK: "Freak Flag"
BILLY ELLIOT: "Electricity" with the three Billys
ROCK OF AGES: Medley
---
HAIR: "Let the Sunshine In"
WEST SIDE STORY: Medley
GUYS AND DOLLS: "Sit Down You're Rocking the Boat"
(Is PAL JOEY allowed to perform?)

PAL JOEY is not allowed to perform, and Roundabout wouldn't want to pay for it even if they were. APPLE TREE was their mid-season revival a few years ago, and they didn't perform at the Tonys. Closed shows do not perform.
WEST SIDE STORY: The Quintet (it features the entire cast, and the two nominees)
I had "Quintet" down next to WEST SIDE but I changed it to Medley....I just think they'd want to highlight the dancing as well.
Do we think the non Best Musical-nominees will perform snippets again like last year?
With only the two lead women nominated I can't imagine WSS paying the full cast to perform. My guess for them is either A Boy Like That/I Have a Love or a medley of I Feel Pretty/America

I'm not sure about billy Elliot though. To do one song with only three of the seven nominees, even with a show like Billy Elliot, it seems like an odd choice. Perhaps a medley, ending with Electricity? Also, what happened to the boy who doubled the role of Michael?
I agree with all, except I'd like to see "I Am the One," though I'm not sure if that would come across too weirdly out of context. It is certainly one of the most powerful songs in the show and I think represents the score well.
Also, what happened to the boy who doubled the role of Michael? I meant to bring this up in the other thread. How do they consider all 3 Billys, but only 1 Michael when they split the role equally as well?
Not that he'll win anyway--at least I hope not.

It would be so great to see a new number from Billy Elliot. Maybe the one with Billy and Michael (now that David is nominated.) Electricity is the ONLY number that keeps showing up on talk shows, morning shows, etc. It's an ok number, but enough already!
I hope Shrek includes at least part of "Who I'd Be" in their performance. That number is transcendent.
9 to 5 is the only new musical that wasn't nominated that's still playing. I don't think we'll see them perform.
I don't think Shrek will do Freak Flag as they will want to show the actors who have been nommed.
I think Next to Normal will go with You Don't Know and a slightly abridged version of I Am the One together for their performance.
Hair will almost certainly do Aquarius/The Flesh Failures together.
Next to Normal is probably the hardest to call. There is so much in the show that I feel like wouldn't resonate as strongly out of context. "I Am the One" was the most powerful moment of the show for me, but it really needs the context, I suspect. What about "Who's Crazy/My Psychopharmacologist and I?" It does feature (at least in some capacity) all of the actors, and it's a fun number that can pull people to the show without trying to convey the emotional aspect in three or four minutes which seems tricky for an awards telecast.
I agree with most of Wickedrocks's other guesses. I also think The Quintet for WSS. And I haven't seen Shrek, so I don't have a guess there.
I'd bet the farm on Rock of Ages doing "Here I Go Again"
Rock of Ages - Here I go Again would be the whole cast or Higher would just be Amy and Constantine.
I've seen those three BillyBoys do that number so many times I now know the choreography. They need to do a bigger number, plus it doesn't represent the show because they don't do it in the show.
Maybe a medley of "Solidarity" and "Electricity"? I don't know exactly how it will work...
But let's face it, the producers have probably been thinking about this since they opened. I'm sure they have something up their sleeve.

Several comments. First off, to the ones who were asking about Billy Elliot's David Bologna and Frank Dolce, who share the role of Michael. Unlike the Billys, they were never ruled on by the Tony Committee, and as such the "standard rules" apply, which is that only the opening night cast is eligible. It's unfortunate for Frank.
Regarding closed shows... there is a precedent for a closed show to perform. "Swinging on a Star" did it as did "Rags." What if [tos] had been nominated for Best Musical? You know that they would perform.
For N2N, I don't think that they will want to do any piece that gives away the secret. So I am the One might not be a great choice, unless they restage it somehow. It also includes Aaron (who's not nominated) but not Jenn (who is). I think they would choose a piece that includes all the nominees. I agree that Another Day is the best bet, although Light would be a good 2nd choice since it includes the whole cast.
For BE, I too hope that they skip the 3-boy Electricity that we've all seen too many times. It's not even the same dance as in the show. I'd rather see them do a medley of Express Yourself, Angry Dance, and Electricity with each of the boys taking one.

Shrek should do a combo... something like What's up duloc transitioning into Who I'd Be... That would show off the nominated actors and give us the best number in their show...
dsapery, that's not a bad idea about the Billy Elliot performance. The only thing is how do you keep it within the time limit? (I don't even know why they have time limits, but that's another matter.) Perhaps they can end it with the whole cast doing "Expressing Yourself" like in the curtain call.

I'd love to see BILLY do "Solidarity."
I think now that Tveit isn't nominated, N2N will want to do something that features not just Ripley, Tveit, and Spencer but will want to include nominee Damiano. Which is why I think they'll do either "Just Another Day" or go with the big finale "Light."

N2N shouldnt do "light"- its just not that great a song. Just Another Day would be perfect except for a very awkward ending that would play kinda strange on tv- might make more sense to do the off-bway ending?
And I am almost sure that WSS will do I Feel Pretty/America medley, rather than have to pay everyone to sing the Quintet, which has no real dancing...
Next to Normal ought to do "Just Another Day" - if they need it to end without... bread throwing they could just end the song the way it used to end before they added that....
The song is catchy, upbeat, and showcases all of the nominated actors.
And Aaron Tveit shirtless is not bad advertising.
