Leslie Kritzer IS Patti Lupone in The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie!

I'd say Clarkson is her the Miss Mackay stage of her career.
How about Vera Farmiga? She lost out on the role in college to an upper classman. She'd be kinda awesome.

Wynbish-You read my mind. I was going to just add her name!

Posted: 6/20/12 at 2:21pmI was going to mention Chastain...but there's something fragile about her that makes me think it wouldn't be a perfect fit for her.

Cynthia Nixon was unfortunately miscast in the New Group production. Her accent was spotty (sounded vaguely Eastern European instead of Scottish) and her performance so low key that it was impossible to imagine Jean Brodie inspiring anyone. There was none of the larger than life theatrical gravitas that Maggie Smith brought it.
This had an interesting effect on the play, making the typically villainous Sandy character more likable. I was pleased to see her dispense with annoying, needy Miss Brodie, plus Zoe Kazan wiped the floor with Nixon acting-wise.

How about Kate Winslet? (I don't know if Rachel Weisz might also be good in the role.)

Rachel McAdams is 34 this year.
Cesar Romero was tall (has anyone seen While You Were Sleeping?)

How about Kate Winslet?
Brilliant idea!

Man, I HATED Cynthia Nixon's Jean. I can still see her sorta old-nymphet smile, her "knowing" eyes looking sideways, that thick horrible brogue... brrrrrr! It permanently put me off an actress I used to like very much..
Though that production introduced me to Zoe Kazan who I fell in love with (until I started disliking her too. I'm so fickle...)
Jean is an odd part. Its written for a character actress, yet a young (ish) one who must at least be a "handsome" woman and have a leading lady stature. And a subtle gift for the comic. Emily Blunt (who is, at the moment, Vanessa's Jean age) or is she too pretty? Kate Winslet brings too much gravitas to anything she does to be a good fit for the somewhat flighty Jean. Even five years ago Emma Thompson would have made the world's best Jean, but I think that ship has sailed. Helen Bonham Carter ten years ago as well. Who are the grand British stars (after the Cynthia debacle I demand a true UKer) of the moment of the right type?

Posted: 6/20/12 at 9:20pmI absolutely loved the movie and Maggie Smith's performance. I even thought about becoming a teacher because of it! The storyline is great and I would be happy to see any of the actors mentioned! However, I was really struck by Tilda.

Though older than the ideal age, I think Laura Linney would be fantastic as Jean.
For another age-appropriate suggestion: Kate Baldwin.

My personal top 3:
Kate Winslet
Cate Blanchett
Emily Blunt
and in a few years:
Michelle Dockery (from Downton Abbey-she plays Lady Mary-I think she'd be great)
